Still, thanks for checking!

I would give it a go right now(removing the grill), but unfortunately I am at work, so my wife will be dropping the car off to the workshop anytime now!...Just want it sorted...however easy it is to remove the grill, the mysterious little black box will need to be put back into place by a specialist...so needs to go in to the workshop regardless.

i will let you all know what this box was...

Is the car new or did you buy it used? If used I wonder if the previous owner had a hidden speed trap detector in there? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Bobby,

I hear you are the technical guru....if you can help...that would be great...

My car is on its way to the workshop...I'm hoping they will look at it, while my wife waits...in which case they will let me know what it is within the hour....race against time....lets see who can come up with an answer first...Bobby...or the great big franchise Land Rover Dealer!

Either way...any help is greatly appreciated.

This not a familiar thing. It might probably, as mentioned above, be an aftermarket gadget.
Anyway, its dark here already and I can't look behind my car's grill now, so hopefully you dealer gets to it first! Thumbs Up Malaysia Boleh!

Laser jammer is used to fool laser type police speedtraps - the ones your ordinary detector cannot find! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

laser jamers usually look like a small black box - exactly as you describe and are concealed behind or below the front grill. Most Police Laser trap guns fire a laser whichh bounces back to the Police gun and this calculates the speed.

A laser jammer senses the laser and in a micro second fires its own laser back at the Police speed gun, this causes a fault reading and prevents the gun from calculating the speed of the speeding motorist. At this point in time a warning sounds in your vehicle telling you to slow down. By the time the policeman re-aims his laser gun at you you should have slowed down.

This is a very simple general description of how they work...

Some are also sold as electronic garage door openers as they work on the same frequency Wink

don't confuse a laser jammer with a laser warning device, they are totaly different. One prevents you being caught, the other only warns you that a laser is in use in the area - and even then this is not accurate because the spread of the laser is so small you are likely to be caught before it warns you in time.

The above is only a very brief summary - significantly more info is available on the net.

Well....Got the answer from my dealer...and it looks like most of you were right....

The dealer workshop confirmed it is indeed an after sales gadget and not a standard Land Rover fitting...he suggested it was probably a laser jammer (per Vogue)..and although he cant confirm it, he thinks whats probably happened is a car has backed into mine, and lodged the mysetry box out of place, or it could be a thief...but a very light handed thief??!! ha ha!..anyway to cut a long story short, they did a health check on the car, everything else is fine...they have secured the mystery box back into place, and also gave my pride and joy a complimentary wash.No charge for anything. My wife was very impressed with the service......

So thank you Stratstone South Woodford. You were great. I will definitely be going back to you for services etc!

Thanks for all your help everyone!

Asim

PS Mr Thief, I will be adding a tracker to my car! RRS Supercharged!!!!
