Shakey headlamps

Hi all have tried to find an answer for this in past threads but not found one. At night with lights on they shake alot. Have removed bulb covers and checked for a loose mount but there isnt, except all the lense fixings seem abit flimsy. Is this standard or have i got a problem?

PS new to the forum so hi to everyone thanks Toby

Trev500/ Toby, welcome to the forums - that is a characteristic of the adaptive Xenons on the TDv8 and S/C. Have you noticed the little "dance" they do when you first switch them on and are parked near to another car or a wall? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

yes have noticed but think they may be off putting to other road users. Ok let me expand, I work in a garage, and do MOTs, would consider them not really right! as in a bit of a manufacturing error as even if u tap the lights when on they shake which could be considered a failure, don't get me wrong am not anul about it but just wanted to know if this was a standard trait!

Interesting, I always thought this would be caused by my 20 inch wheels! Shocked So, additionally: the TDV6 can do this too! Thumbs Up

Out of interest then Trev, are you saying you would fail a vehicle's MOT if the lights did this? Confused

I've noticed that quite a few other marques of cars with Xenons do this - Jaguars, Audis and BMW's in particular. I think it has something to do with the self levelling system 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

My Audi never did this and neither does the Audi of MrsMcBunny, I have never seen this on any other car. However mine does only do this while driving, do I understand you correctly that you cars do this while standing still? Then my shaking is perhaps really just due to the tyres?! Question

I think, it's just a typical LR-feature, like all the others. Wink RRS TDV6 HSE, 2006, bonatti grey, ebony interior, rear diff, s/c grille and vents, stormers, privacy, tasmods, iphone integration Wink

I have a had a few BMW's in my time (M5 Twisted Evil , M3 Evil or Very Mad , 645 Razz and lately 535d Shocked ) and thay have all had self levelling Xenon lights - and yes they do a little dance when you turn them on as they self level (it is a legal requirement as far as I know for all vehicles fitted with Xenons to prevent dazzle of oncoming road users). Once had a Xenon unit fail but it always fails in the down position (according to BMW dude anyway so you can drive home on the one good one). Exclamation

However, I have a 9 month old RRSport TDV6 and a 9 month old Disco3 XS Commercial TDV6 and they both have Xenons and self levelling suspension but I have never noticed either vehicle doing the jiggy-jig with the Xenons on start-up (lights switch on that is).

Neither one shows lots of vibration whilst running down the road either.

I thought that LR complied with the law of self levelling by the very fact that the vehicle is self levelling using its suspension sensors and the air system? And that the lamp housing assemblies themselves are essentially fixed (static)?

'We' get flashed by angry motorists now and again if you break over the brow of a hill and give them both lights full in the face (even when dipped). The trick here is to put the high beam on and burn their eye sockets out thus preventing them from being continually dazzled Rolling Eyes

I think vibrating headlisghts is an issue for stealer? If someone has changed them over to right hand side driving at sometime in the past, and then bodged changing them back over with the silly little clips installed within them, then that might leave them 'loose'?

Just a thought. Smoke me a kipper: I'll be back for breakfast.

RRS HSE TDV6 gone after 15 months since new - will not be missed I'm afraid - bit of a gremlin in there somewhere - too many issues. Replaced with FFRR Vogue TDV8 - very nice - not as sporty (of course) but absolute luxury.
