Waranty Inspection - Expires end of March

A LR specialist put the Sport through a full warranty check yesterday in order to provide me a list of ills to take to the dealer prior to the warranty expiring on the 29th of the month. 2 problems found:

Front Control arm bushes soft (assume they mean worn), which is they believe causing the wirring/road noise at it is causing an uneven wear of the tyres .. i had this down to the diff / drive shaft Embarassed

Leaky front diff

I was expecting a whole lot more Shocked Anyone else put their beloved through this and come up with a more complete list of known hassles at the 3 year point Question Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

Seems like a good idea to to this before sending your beauty in for it's last service before warranty expiry.

Tim yes. I was a whisper away in trading it in for a brand new TDv8 MY09 in Zermatt again (only colour avail at the time) about 6 weeks ago, but with the new house build this year... and the projected costs higher than anticipated Big Cry i was told (by she who must be obeyed) the TDv6 has to stay until we see what small change is left after the builders have robbed us blind. It will be retired to Queensland in about 18 months and used as the holiday home runaround, at that point i will most probably look out for the new TDv6 3.0 if that is the primary choice then.. or the TDv8 or equivalent, so one in each state Whistle Thumbs Up Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

i was speaking with my dealer the other day, as mine comes up for 3 year old in November.

They said it was common practice just to do the MOT 28days in advance, so any defects could be sorted on the warranty (if covered).

They did make it sound like it was just a MOT check, not a check on everything covered.

What have others done, paid for the dealer to check everything, wait to see if anything fails on the MOT or is it best to take to a independant for them to check and give a list Question

I have had a fair few niggles with my car and don't want to be lumbered with something just out of warranty either

The problem being the MOT covers road worthiness, and not all the issues you would want a check list against in terms of broader issues with the vehicle. In Australia, as it is a new car, i do not need to get the equivalent of the MOT for 5 years, therefore there is certainly a gap there.

If you have an independent nearby that truely know the marque, i would recommend it may be worth throwing some money at them to do at least an inspection. In Australia the NRMA (AA) also provide this service, do the AA or RAC ? I know i paid the AA some years ago to undertake a comprehensive assessment of a Disco for me in the UK, not cheap, but found out it spent half its life on slip ways towing boats in and out.. Could be an option NP, have a chat to the motoring organisations..or an independent. I remember VA had a disaster with a drive shaft just after expiration of the Warranty, i think LR met him half way

Lots of valid points there, Jim

I shall look into it, with my local dealer or independant, a bit closer to the time Smile

I recall VA's problems, thats why I thinking of looking at it as much as possible prior to to it running out

Would I get a better trade in with warranty (only a few months) than without, is also something i am thinking about too Confused

64K question NP, i think it is all down to personal circumstances.

i had the LR extended warranty in the UK on my disco's, TDI and TD5, however i was not sure if it could be transferred to a new owner, and it was only valid for a year at a time, to be honest from what i remember it was a pretty crap deal with limits on payment etc. Has this changed in the last 4 years ??

The LR Australia extended warranty is with Allianz, no caps/limits on repairs in general, about 800 Pounds for 3 years/60,000 Km's and transferable, you can also extend the LR assist, so therefore i would say more attractive than the old UK LR warranty, have LR UK improved it ?? do they now have faith in the marque ? Another Pommie Bar Steward down under

They'll be on my list to call when the time comes Thumbs Up

Working on my boss to change it before it runs out in November, but techically should wait till March 2010 as i bought it pre registered.

Hopefull LR will have launched lower emmission engines by then to make the CC tax cheaper Sad

The list so far:

    Front Control Arm bushes
    Leaky front diff
    EPB binding
Radio, lose volume/speakers on a regular basis
    Radio buttons faded
Rear Hatch, Bottom Lining coming adrift
Steering wheel squeaks/rubs when turning (they upgraded the steering rack last time)
Driver seat noise when moved forward
Front Window lower seal panel faded

It is a Dec 05 TDv6 MY06. Does anyone have a definitive list of what else i should ask for to be checked, in particular against tech bulletins for the radio speaker volume loss.

Any idea what the minimum engine management firmware should be

Just wish to keep my dealer honest on its last check up

Thanks Another Pommie Bar Steward down under
