Sat Nav Voice Recognition

7 out of 10 times i get in the motor and turn the ignition the sat nav voice recognition kicks in without any buttons being pressed, the instrument display shows "listening" and the voice states "Sory command not recognised" this is doing my swede in and the dealer is checking with the factory as they do not know what is the cause, the other thing is that the voice recognition on the sat nav does not work and i have done everything as per the manual, has anybody else had same problem or does anybody know how to fix it. Big Cry

Many thanks

Voice recognition in my car was tried on the first afternoon and hasn't been used since!
Waste of time as it never seems to recognise any sort of dialect/accent - and I speak pretty clearly as I use radios a lot in my job and even then I cannot get the dammed thing to recognise my voice whereas the Ukranians and Filipinos who I work with and who's first language isn't English have no problem understanding my commands over a radio in plain clear English!! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I wonder if the voice control button is jammed in or something... it sounds like the car is expecting you to say something as soon as it turns on, which would normally only happen once you'd pressed the voice command button. Can you have a look at that and see it it can be "pinged" out with a cocktail stick or something? Confused

Agree it shouldn't happen in the first place Very Happy

Dont think so as it is intermittent, it is a TDVS 06 HSE also had LR Bluetooth after market kit fitted as pre requisite of the deal and that is also doing strange things intermmitantly, wonder if the 2 issues are connected

I think you can be sure they are connected. I had an after market LR bluetooth kit installed on my 2005 TD V6 and it worked intermittently for the first year before going dead. Turned out the wiring was done badly from the unit up over the windshield to the microphone and the technician had managed to screw the sunvisor back in through the wires. You may also have button problems on your steering column. I complained about cruise control not working always and they took wheel cover off and fixed the buttons/wiring. Bring it back and ask them to check the wiring they installed. RRS TDV6 (gone)

I have an intermittent issue with my cruise button not responding, was just living with it, but on the basis of this comment will contact the stealer to get it looked at!

I remember an old TSB concerning this.

The problem was a "component software error from the phone system manufacturer" and I think they needed to change the "Accessory phone module". Malaysia Boleh!

I think Shmoogle is right, in so much that the VR switch on the steering wheel is giving out signals. Next time you get in and it beeps, say in a calm voice "Radio Help". If it responds with the verbal Radio VR help then you know the system is working but the trigger isn't.

Let us know how you get on as it sounds a curious one.

James Thumbs Up

Sounds like you didn't get the "Matthew our electronics guy" like they have at Charles Hurst do give you the low down on all the controls! IIRC my hand over of the Tdv8 lasted something like 2 hours of which 1.5 was going through all the gizmos and controls. And I still don't use the VR! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
