I average about 11L/100km (26mpg) in my 2008 TDV8 , with down to 8 (35mpg) on freeway and up to 17 (17mpg) with spirited driving.

Is this the inlet plenum for a TDV8? If so, that's the device that deactivates one of the inlet ports to give better low end performance. It's also connected to a pipe that runs to the filter box.
