I have a problem which I haven't come across before.

When the car is running and in park if I press the foot brake there is a loud clicking and the gear stick vibrates a little at the same time. If the engine is off and I press the brake all I get is a clicking sound. This problem has only appeared since a knocking sound has started when driving over uneven roads and bumps.

Any ideas? 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

There is a solenoid attached to the gear stick, which is activated by the foot brake, to stop you putting it into gear without your foot on the brake, you can feel it through the gear stick, and if you can hear the solenoid clicking


It has been discussed on here before, and some have got it done under warranty,mines not to bad so i havent bothered some of my Previous cars

This is really noticeable and the gear stick vibrates at the same time. I find it odd that it has occured at the same time that this knocking noise has started. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

it happens on mine all the time, but its not a vibration more of just feeling a a slight tap on the gearstick

Have you tried steam cleaning under the transmission tunnel just in case there is some mud stuck up there affecting it some of my Previous cars

As Envoy says VA there is a gear lever shift inhibit solenoid
This is the click you hear when you press the foot brake.
The clicking normally gets louder with age and heat, only way to get it quiet is replace it but the dealers will say well its working but just noisy
As for the vibration on the lever you would have to check the linkage and the retaining bolts. under the console.
Looking at the pictures last week I could not imagine how you got mud under there  You don't stop playing because you get old, You get old because you stop playing.
