I've had this fitted to my D3 now for about a month. The interface does NOT give you the ability to control the ipod through the headunit or satnav screen and it does not show track info on either of the screens.

What is does do is allow you to control the ipod through the steering wheel controls - next/previous track/playlist, and to switch shuffle on or off (if you have PTI, as the shuffle function uses the end call button).

The reason the ipod is mounted in view is so that you can see what track is playing and do fancier stuff than the steering wheel controls allow.

What you also get is the ability to play music files on a USB memory stick through a connector mounted in the upper glove box (track selection using steering wheel controls, but remember you can't see what's playing) and a new aux input in the upper glove box.

Audio quality is great, and the kit contains a decent amplifier to bring the level up to approx the same level as CD playback.

Oh, and BTW, the kit is a Dension kit modified for LR. It most closely resembles the Icelink Gateway 400.

It's DIY if you're comfortable with taking a few pieces of trim off, drilling a hole in your glovebox and plugging a few wires into the radio loom. I had no problem doing it anyway.

BTW, you don't need to mount the cradle where LR say to mount it. There's loads of spare cable if you wanted to mount it elsewhere. 10forcash on the D3 forum mounted his to the left of the radio - where I've got a phone cradle.

Yes, it's quite simple. You remove the radio, unplug the wires from the back of it, plug those into a new loom, and plug the new loom into the back of the radio, and refit the radio. The new loom has an extra connector which goes off to the ipod module.
