and the RRS has an additional extended-extended mode on the air suspension, should you need a boost if grounded, apparently. So i was told on my "free" 1/2 day off road trial that i got when i bought my RRS.

The D3 has better ground clearance and shorter overhangs. On our last Yarwell trip, I reversed up a slope in my D3. Then VA did it in his RRS and the front underside hit the ground and began to rip of the plastic valance.
They are both good off road, but the D3 does have the advantage here.

The D3 has a key advantage offroad - it belongs to my wife ..... so I am happy throwing it at anything. The D3's 18" wheels and tyres are a big help v the 20" tart's wheels of the RRS.
The RRS on the other hand cost more, looks better and would cause me untold grief if it got scrapped, stuck or dinged. So in real life the D3 does more and goes further .... everytime
Given the same driver, conditions, tyres etc then the RRS is technically "better" off road as it is a shorter wheelbase.
Martin, why does a shorter wheelbase necessarily make a "better" offroader In my experience a 100" wheelbase (like on the classic Range Rover) did better offroad than a 90" wheelbase (like on the Defender). Indeed a few very keen offroaders I know converted 90's into 100's or 110's into 100's.
What wheelbase does a RRS and D3 have anyhow ? Now the quantity in inches isn't in the name, its hard to remember these things.
Occurs to me that metrication might mean the Defender gets renamed as the "205.7" or the "251.4". Not quite as catchy as the 90 or 110 (but then again a 90 isn't really a 90 - is it ?).
