Hi Guys,

My Ford Territory is up for replacement in July, and I was looking at a RRS with the TDV8 in it. Being based in Australia, we don't expect out first shipment of them until the second quarter, however I am hoping to have one on order before then.

What is the general consensus of the TDV8? I haven't had a Diesel since 2002, when I sold my Nissan Patrol, so the first time I got into a TDV6 RRS, I thought it was overly noisy, however I don't notice that with subsequent test drives.

My Territory has been a great car, however it has been as reliable as a mid-80's Jaguar, and I am a little apprehensive getting a Range Rover, as there seems to be a quality cloud hanging over them. How reliable are they? I drive about 40,000 Kilometres per year with my job, and I don't want to be stranded in the middle of nowhere (we have a lot of that in Australia) without a dealer in 500 KMs. Ford don't have that problem as the Falcon is Australia's number two car, and there are Ford dealers everywhere, so owning an Australian built car isn't that much of a problem.

Lastly, I have a 2 Tonne Boat. How are the RRSes at Towing? I understand they have a low range Gearbox, so a steep ramp won't be an issue, however I don't know how to take the suspension, having not towed anything with it yet.

Sorry for the long First Post, however I am really excited at the prospect of getting a car that will make the Neighbours envious, and something that my Mrs. (who drives a Mazda6) happy to be seen in.

In terms of the TDV8, early views seem positive although there aren't enough in the field yet to have much of a sample. Time well tell, but I expect responses will be excellent.

As for reliability, the RRS is no worse or better than any other car when it comes to problems. A lot of problems were ironed out with the D3, most of which were solved before the RRS was released. Also, don't forget the nature of a forum such as this is that you'll tend to mostly hear about the bad things. There are no real showstoppers that can't be resolved by a trip to the dealers or a forage around the threads here.

Upon delivery, take a close look at paint & trim finish but you should be fine. There are plenty of RRS owners that have not had a single issue. It's a great car and you will be well pleased to have bought one!

You will have no problems pulling a 2T boat behind either the tdv6 or TDv8, afterall one reason many people buy a Land Rover is purely as a good tow car 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I think LR uses a G-trag (??) 6 speeder and they are all automatics, there isn't a manual option. They used Japanese automatic for a while in the Freelander one and also in the FFRR, but with D3 changed to the G-Trag 6 speed auto with "commandshift" manual. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I seem to remember they use Getrag boxes too - TB might be able to confirm? BMW use Getrag autos too, so it might be a supply chain hangover from back then

But I believe it is a ZF gearbox. Arctic Frost TDV6 SE. Aspen Leather, Cherry Wood, Privacy Glass, PTI, Tow Pack, Mudflaps, Tasmods, a new Fuelflap, a RRSport.co.uk umbrella in the boot & a RRSport.co.uk sticker on the rear glass.

I used to do a lot of towing with a P38 Range Rover diesel auto, anything up to 3.5 tons (and more occasionaly) and that towed beautifully (bit under powered) but i reckon the RRS would be an excellent vehicle to tow with,more power and the six speed box. some of my Previous cars

How well does the Alpaca leather stand up to abuse? I have a Leahter in the Terriotry called Eucalyptus, which is a shade of greeny/grey, however with a baby in the car, and the mess (and other crap) that comes with a family, how hard is it to keep clean?

I drove a TDV8 FFRR and was very impressed. Much better than the new X5, so that is out of the equation, leaving a RRS and a Q7. One other question. Do I go for Rimini or Zambezi (or whatever its called)?
