Tonight when leaving work I put my foot on the brake and there was a strange sound & clunk sensation? It was linked to the gear selector, when in P ...... if I took my foot off the brake and reaplied it.... It would do the same sound each time. It sounded like a relay operating??? you could also feel this noise if you know what I mean ???

has anyone experienced this before?

I will monitor - but none the less will be screaching my way back to the dealer = For gods sake ...... it's just been bloody serviced

Yes, I've felt it.

I think its the 'release' mechanism working, meaning when the footbrake is applied the gear lever is 'released' so that you can shift to R or D.

Just put your hand on the gear selector lever and keep on applying the footbrake intermittently - one can feel the sensation. Should not be anything to worry about, I believe. Malaysia Boleh!

But after 12 months of total silence,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and now CLICK,,,,,,,, each time I touch thr foot brake it's not right ..... dealers tomorrow it is then.

Sometimes at the traffic lights, I feel a minor 'clud' while my foot is on brake pedal. I believe it is the gear box deciding to engage first or second gear? Could it be this you are feeling? It seems very minor to me.

My D3 acts the same on P and N position, I think that it's a safety feature. 05' LR3, V8 HSE, Adriatic Blue

IT's definately a loud "CLICK" ........... I would say its a relay that is not fuctioning correctly!

From no sound at all to click click click click each time I touch the brake = NO !

I have noticed a slight click sometimes, but if it is a repeated click it sounds like another trip to the dealer

Does is click too when you get above a few miles per hour? Sounds like the relay.

That said, I think there must be two relays in the selector; one which stops taking it out of park unless the brake is on, and one which stops D/N - but this is disabled when travelling as you can, of course, select drive and neutral when in motion.

Ive felt this as well but thought it was just the relay switching the brake lights on  RRS TDV6 Gone but still around

Completely normal sound...what happens is that usually you have subconsciously already squeezed the shift knob to put it into R or D while pressing the brake pedal, so you don't notice the clicking sound.

Same thing happened to me after about 1 month of ownership...had it validated with the dealership...totally normal. PJPR

After visit to dealer in my lunch hour [ or 2 ] they confirmed that the noise is coming from a Solenoid that operates the "park lock "

A new/replacement solenoid has been ordered for fitting next week = Result.

Hhmmm...so under normal circumstances, you don't have any click at all with the vehicle in Park, and then pushing and releasing the brake pedal?

Odd...I have felt this on my RRS and all of the LR3 loaner cars...wonder if there is some other sound then. PJPR

That's correct - never used to hear a thing ....... was always silent. But this happened over night.... its a right old clunky click and you can also feel it through/via the gear selector if you hold it at the same time as you press on the footbrake.

Sit in car - shut door - start car - In " P " hold gear stick & press brake = clunk-click .......... sit there and continually tap on the brake pedal..... it will clunk-click each and every time you press the brake...... without moving the gear selector.....
