ACE Valve block corroded pipework - preventative

So I've started to perform most of the maintenance on my L494 and as I'm spending more time under the bonnet and the car I've started finding little (and not so little issues) that have needed sorting, The car is a MY19 4.4 SDV Autobiography.

I've done the sunroof drain mod and was just doing oil & filter changes last week. I found that the nearside airbox hose on the 'clean side' was not connected. So for goodness knows how long (probably the last time main dealer serviced), its been sucking in 'dirty air'. All connected up now.

Next issue was a rattle that a local Indy had told me was a broken catalytic convertor that was 'starting to break up'. This took a bit of finding, but eventually I found a heatshield right next to the exhaust manifold that was missing its fixing and was rattling. This saved me over £2k for an unnecessary Cat replacement, and the V8 purrs now, doesn't rattle like a bag of spanners.

Finally today I thought I'd check out the ACE Dynamic Ride Control hoses as I know they are prone to corroding. Sure enough, even though the car is only 6 years old the corrosion is noticeable. Not enough to be structural but I'm not sure next winter it would be the same. Wire brushed all the visible pipes, sprayed rust treatment on them then painted with hammerite. Then did the same for the fuel tank protector which was also looking 'on the turn' due to corrosion. Looks pretty good now.

Part of me thinks, why didn't LR make these parts better... then I suddenly realised its part of the LR heritage.. if you're not prepared to get under the car and fiddle then you probably shouldn't be driving a Land Rover Rolling with laughter

Anyway, some pics for those that are interested..

Good job Thumbs Up Cool , this is how mine looked recently. Unfortunately I had leak ! Replaced the section of pipe with some hydraulic pipe , cleaned all the other pipes up and sprayed them up with hamerite metal paint - surely a 5 minute job in the factory for LR to do this!!

The amount of crud clogged up in the plastic undertray - no wonder the pipes corrode mine buried in about 3kg wet gravel!

Thanks -
I've done the tank guard with Lanoguard and fitted the chrome pipe stiffeners into the sunroof drains.
Seems like we have a 3rd achilles heel then.
So I assume the ACE pipework is on the near side? Any idea how easy or not it is to access if you have fixed side steps? 2021 L494 D300MHEV Autobiography

I have side steps fitted to mine, had to pop this off, support it so it doesn't fall on your noggin. Then the sill protector, about 10 bolts in total, 8mm, 10mm. As others have said, it will be full of crap so wear eye protection!

If you can get it before it rots out it will save you hassle, but it sounds like you can get aftermarket compression repair sections, so shouldn't be the 2k job to replace.. but prevention always better than sure IMHO. Good luck and send pics Smile
