New tyres advised on MOT for 2006 TDV6 on 19" rims

Hi every one,

I am sure someone will be able to point me to a previous post regarding this and I appreciate opions will vary however, I have just seen on my MOT for the first time that my RRS MOT'd today, that it says the age of the tyres (11 years old) and although they are getting worn on the shoulders (fronts) Should I be looking to replace all four tyres due to their age? is this a new thing that I have missed? it is currently on 4 x 255/50 R19 Roadstone Roadian HP which seem to do the job well and don't appear to give me any issues and are all wearing evenly (except the shoulders from cornering).

I am thinking of changing them in a few months time (as they still have plenty of tread left 4-5mm) for either the same Roadstones or possibly General Graber AS 255/50/19's.

My previous Range Rovers (P38's & L322's) I used to run on Pirelli Zero's but I what want to know is can anyone tell me if these were fitted to the Range Rover Sport or was it a different brand from new from Land Rover?

Many thanks

Spen

It's not a new thing.

Usually tyres of this age will show signs of cracking. Either on the side wall or inside the tread grooves.
If you can't see these issues I would tend to keep them.

New rubber isn't necessary longer lasting/better. I've seen 5 year old pirellies with signs of age.
So don't think that you are going to fit new tyres and they will last 10 years

Thanks Andy,

I know that the ten year tyre rule is prevalent in the Coach and HGV industry but had never seen it before on a car MoT.

I was surprized when they (MoT garage) told me the tyres were 11 years old , I have only had it a year and would never have guessed from looking at them.

I will keep an eye on the tyres and replace accordingly. I was trying to find out what tyres might have been fitted from new ie Pirrelli's or Michelins etc too
