Evening All. Can anyone tell me what the sensor is on a 3.0 water pump is for ? The water pump on mine has gone. When ordering a new pump I was asked if it had the sensor or not. Apart from about £250 difference in price and a sensor I can’t see any difference in the pumps. Just interested what the sensor is for. If it’s got tits,tyres or floats it will give you trouble

I believe the Gen 2 engine has the electronic waterpump that aids warm up from cold. Some sort of shutter assembly blocks circulation and hence allows the coolant to warm up quicker, all in the quest for lowering emissions.
