What is this

When looking around my engine bay yesterday I happened to glance up at the bonnet vents and noticed some black polythene inside the vent, does it have a purpose?
It seems quite firmly in place and I don’t want to tug it out if it actually has a purpose.

Any suggestions please Michael

They're just anti resonance bags to stop any droning sound of the air intake system that runs through the bonnet. They have been known to detach and block the air filter inlets on the flitch panels resulting in a restricted performance fault (LR Time on Youtube had the issue on his SDV8). As long as they're firmly attached forget about them.
