I've recently in the last 1000 miles had a mega flush and filter change done on my 6 speed box with reset adaptation, the car is a TDV8 and now changes nicely and smoother to drive.

I've just uploaded a Bell Auto Services remap/tune alongside the EGR patch I bought off Pete Bell back in May, all go so far, its nicer to drive off boost with more urgency off the line straight away, I can tell it has more go as well, but not been going mad, as I understand the calibration needs to learn over the next few hundred miles.

I know looking at the ECU info on my GAP iid tool that I could if I wanted to upgrade to the latest version of ZF 6 speed gearbox updates and wondered if anyone has done the same and what benefits they experienced.

I know the LR and Range rover communities are wary of updating certain aspects of ECU updates, which I'm not sure why? "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", why otherwise did LR release the update then????

My car has just crept up to 99,000, so still a strong unit and gearbox behaves as it should to my knowledge after what was its first oil change in 15 years by the colour of it!

Any suggestion or advice would be greatly appreciated, I know I can contact Patrick at GAP to get the update sent across, but wondered beforehand what other enthusiasts experiences were beforehand.

My 3.0L V6 has just covered 140,000kms and I got the mechatronic seals changed out yesterday. Obviously, as it drove out of the workshop, the shift points were all over the place. Furthermore, there was an obvious lag shifting from 3rd to 4th.

Back home, out with the Gap II tool. One quick adaption reset, the gearbox shifted much smoother but there was still the lag between 3rd to 4th. Set it into command shift, drove it for 2-3km manually shifting up & down between 3rd and 4th. Now the lag is gone, shifts smooth and it behaves like a real Range Rover should.

generally I wouldn't update it. However, there is a fix for something call the californian shunt or stop.
Basically when slowing down and decreasing thru the gears, if you get an unpleasant feeling then an update should sort it. So if you get this, or it bothers you, then you could update it.

For info.....

I did the re-adaptation to the gearbox again (last done in August) and the update via GAP iid.

Its got to relearn again obviously, but it definitely shifts smoother than last time I re-adapted it and the gearbox flushed, oil changed and filter done.

Just got to get it to settle down again, as at the start of last week I had the BAS map uploaded also.

I hope to see a change in MPG once it sorts itself out and recalibrates itself.

I had the car hooked up to my CTEK CS One charger and had the battery charging over night prior to the upload.

Not sure on everyone's negativity towards software uploads/improvements, other car marques are always promoting such changes to help with the smooth running of the car.

Not sure everyone is against software updates, personally don't really see the logic in updating something unless someone has a issue of some sort which it may rectify, but on L/R previous record of updates it sometimes make the situation worse.

Well, thanks for the replies.

so far so good, smoother gear changes and less shunt, with the map also I'm seeing 2mpg better fuel economy on my usual route to work, so a win/win for me so far.

I guess the gearbox will relearn over a period of time as will the engine adaptations after the remap.

As for the comments on updating, I've been retrofitting and using diagnostics for years and have always seen good improvements, but it could be true you sceptics saying certain software updates make things worse, not in my case this time.

As for other modules, yes there's a few on my car that need updating, but it was the engine and gearbox and the overall drivetrain I was looking to improve and I feel I've done that.
