EV mode unavailable

Hi, have had a p550e for a year which I use on electric probably 80% of the time (although I do at least 2 long journeys a month using the engine).

Anyway over the last week it’s been starting up in hybrid mode with the engine coming on straight away. If I try to put it in EV mode it says EV mode is temporarily unavailable. I can usually shift it into EV mode after about 10 minutes of driving.

Anyone else had this?

Certainly had that on my P400e.

It is most likely the HV heater has failed, if it is not working then the engine has to to start to heat the car up to the temperate you selected.

A quick test is to turn the heater off, start the car and it should stay in EV mode.
Then turn up the temperature and if the EV heater has failed the engine will start to warm the car up. 2026 P460e Autobiography on order

Thanks that makes a lot of sense and would explain why EV mode is available after 5-10 mins, I’ll give it a try tomorrow.

Had this on my L460 P440 hybrid. It was the coolant water heater that needed replacement. Common issue and plagued the Porsche Taycan in the early days as same heater model.

Just seen similar response above after I posted Razz Bow down 2014 Range Rover Sport Autobiography 4.4V8
2022 Range Rover L460 Autobiography now sold.

Hi, had this on my P440e.
See my post on these issues until it failed completely.
https://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic63290.html
They eventually replaced some HV battery modules and the 'electrical distribution box' (?) which is what was stopping the 12v system from charging and effectively made the car unusable even in petrol mode.
It's a known fault within JLR but they're not sharing it much. As usual.
Took them 6 weeks to diagnose - bit by bit then wait for parts and then fix it.
Just glad it's under warranty!! L494 Range Rover Sport Dynamic HSE - 2019, 3.0 SDV6, Loire Blue - SOLD

I have had both those faults on my P400e, but not at the same time!

There is a "module" that acts as a split charger for the main 12 volt battery and a small auxillary 12 volts battery. Mine failed and it stopped charging the auxiallry battery which affects the brakes!

In this case I am sure it is the first fault. 2026 P460e Autobiography on order
