Hi I am selling my Audi A5 Cabriolet in Shiraz Red (Rare colour) and my Discovery Sport. I previously had a couple of RRS a 2013 face lift and 2016 both the 3.o diesels.
I see some 2.o / electric models
Originally was only looking at the 3.0 diesel so would appriciate and pros or cons for the 2 different engine choices please RRS HSE DYNAMIC 2015 ODESSEY RED

P400E or D300MHEV.

the positives of the P400E
Driving around for almost free when staying local
Instant torque
Petrol engine when needed.

and negatives
I keep my cars a long time - can I really trust the battery in year 11?
They are more complex electronically - not JLRs strong point. I keep reading about issues and complex expensive failures. Made me nervous.
Running pure petrol on long runs - 25mpg or the way I drive, probably closer to 20. Might be a problem if I suddenly have a regular long motorway commute again. Then again, 25 miles of electric to contra that against, charge up when I get there ... - my head hurts.
much higher revving engine (not the lazy low revving of the diesel that I've come to love).
Does a 2.0 petrol really have enough grunt on its own or is it going to be constantly changing down?
Less boot space - and that slope - don't things sit in the dip and roll out when you open the boot?
No spare wheel.
I occasionally tow - the D300 is a no brainer for towing.

Now I didn't get around to test driving a P400E which I think was a mistake, as some of the negatives may have been tolerable. I chose the D300 really on the better the devil you know. I work freelance and have had jobs that require regular motorway trips so i was nervous of the MPG and figured the battery doesn't give enough mileage to be useful for long commutes.

So, since getting it, all my work has been from home or worst, 6 miles from home. 98% of my trips could have been pure electric. Even when I do go farther afield, the D300 isn't great on fuel. Went from Leeds to Skipton (LR Experience) last Sunday - ok, no motorways, just 30 miles of beautiful country roads and villages, but 28.5mpg recorded is still a little disappointing. Clearly the PHEV would have been much better in that scenario, swapping to electric in the towns. Best I've had since owning this car has been 36, which I guess for a huge, heavy barn door isn't bad. My previous car was a Jag XF-S with the 3.0V6D. That would do 40-50 so I'm still acclimatising to RRS ownership. So fuel cost wise, over the last 3 months, it's probably been a mistake. I might have a run down to London in a few weeks. That I suspect will be the first real 'win' where I hope to see 40, but overall on average, I'd have been better with the PHEV.

All that said, I did the maths and I reckon over 12k the RRS will cost around £10 a week more in fuel than the Jag did - which, if that's actually a concern (it isn't), then what the hell am I doing running a Range Rover?

For the drive, well the PHEV is supposed to be very refined and certainly quick. The IL6 is more big and grumbly in sound (suits the RRS) but does sound very purposeful, is never intrusive and very smooth. It's a lovely refined engine with plenty of low down torque and more than capable of getting you into trouble.

So for me, the jury is out. On pure running costs, the PHEV is probably the winner right now. Longer term, reliability etc, we'll have to see.

I’m on my fifth Sport (see sig block below).

The D300 AB is the best one so far.

On a run (Somerset to Heathrow or Twickenham) I’ve had 42mpg average indicated and the fuel refill confirmed it!.

The electric supercharger gets it off the blocks surprisingly quickly and the turbo comes in smoothly to keep progress “sprightly”

Trying to fit a charger where we live (in a rural location) could be problematic as we’ve already had voltage issues due to limited overhead power lines so a PHEV was never on the cards for us plus we have knowledge of the 3.0/48v setup as SWMBO has had a D250 Defender 90 for four and a half faultless years.

Nice to hear the D300 will crack 40mpg - not achieved that yet. If it can do that on a run, that'd be great, though to be fair, with my right foot, it's probably unlikely - but that's my fault.

As I understand it, the petrol Ingenium has a 48v supercharger but the diesel has to make do with just the 2 turbos. Agree though, the lag is minimal.

I was used to the Jag which would do nothing for the first second or so, then the rear tyres would light up and you'd be off, looking and sounding like an idiot. Balancing that for a quick but calm take-off was always a challenge.
With 4wd and a more immediate engine, one of the joys of the D300 is the way you can tear off at the lights with no fuss or drama. 2021 L494 D300MHEV Autobiography

Hi,

You’re right - it is twin turbo but the BISG must give it the initial help, which gets rid of the turbo lag, otherwise there’s little point in having the 48v battery and calling it an MHEV.

I think the “basic” D300 was in L494 then it was modified to MHEV in the L461.

Either way, it’s still a joy to drive!

Almost - my '21 494 D300 is the 48V MHEV with the belt driven starter/generator setup - so as far as I know, the exact same engine setup as in the L461. Slightly earlier ones than mine had the V6 Diesel so I assume mine was one of the first with this setup which then rolled into the L461. I guess it gave them chance to test it out on the public before the new model was released.

The only indication it is 48V is that the stop-start spins up pretty much instantly.
It's also supposed to provide some additional torque at low revs so it probably is contributing to the lack of turbo lag but there's nothing to tell that's happening - all goes on quietly in the background.

Hi all, was hoping to jump in on this one with a slightly different steer. I'm looking to get rid of the MY13 RRS 3.0SDV6 and upgrade to a MY17 RRS, also the 3.0SDV6.

Am i correct in seeing these are both the 306DT engines so should be exactly the same? if so, what's the difference to up the power by 50horses - just a different tune/map?

Apart from the usual crankshaft fears, any other particular issues people would raise? or is it just effectively the same as my current MY13?

It's a bit too cheap for the age so wondering what i should be wary of....

Any advice/suggestions welcome.

Yes, all the TDV6's, whether the 2.7 or the last 300bhp one are basically the same engine, just with a few tweaks, mostly in software. Not sure if the 300hp has larger injectors but the basics are still the same.

As to why it's cheap - no idea - the 494, especially the late ones are pretty sound. No major issues I've managed to find ... except maybe one, corrosion of the fuel tank support which is probably a £2k fix, but 17 is very early for that to be a problem. 2021 L494 D300MHEV Autobiography
