L494 battery charging

I have just bought a 2014 L494 diesel, I usually kept my previous L320 battery topped up with my C-tek charger but I have only just discovered this model has two batteries, a main battery and what I believe is a small start/stop battery.
My question is, can I connect a C-tek traffic light lead to either or both batteries and keep them topped up?
The handbook seems to suggest the batteries should not be charged while connected to the car as a risk of damaging the electronics, can this be true? Michael

I’m no expert but I have a 2016 diesel and I like you I’ve always kept my cars charged with a C-Tek.
I hard wired mine and haven’t had any issues.
Plus I’m not a fan of Stop-Start so I found a thread on here on how to disable it so I don’t have to remember to press the button every time I start it.
Hope this helps.

Thank you for that, like you I am not a fan of start/stop, how did you disable it?
When you hardwired the main battery did you use the C-tek traffic light lead?

I can’t remember the model of the charger but it was one of the maintenance type chargers, if it helps I can get the model number in the morning.
As for the Stop-Start there are types one has a battery and the other has a capacitor, here’s the link I used to find out how to disable it.

Happy reading.

Again I hope this helps.

Don’t connect the -ve lead to the battery attach it to an earth point or chassis. This is to allow the BCM to work as it should.

I have a 2015 year RRS and use my CTEC charger on the terminals under the bonnet. It charges up both batteries from there.
