United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Firenze Red
Connecting vehicle to InControl

Bought my new MY20 Autobiography on Friday and managed to register the InControl app successfully and it worked perfectly until Sunday lunch when it stopped syncing.

Like a fool I removed the car from my account with a view to reinstall it to see if it sorted the sync issues out.

When I come to connect again via the VIN on the app I get the following message: 'Vehicle not ready for activation. This vehicle is not yet ready for InControl Activation. Please contact your dealer for assistance'

When I try to do it through a web browser I get: 'No vehicle found Sorry, we could not find your vehicle. This could be because the vehicle does not have InControl services installed, or because the VIN was mis-typed. Please check the VIN and try again'.

I have had 4 separate web chats with JLR spanning all afternoon, they have registered the vehicle properly in my name and pushed a software update to my car. They have had me drive around and perform a 'B-Call' which I have done twice with full 4g signal. I have signed out of the app and signed back in, deleted the app altogether and tried again.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Is there a way to just reset the car itself and start again?

Just been waiting on a web chat for 15mins, someone connected and disconnected straight away and now it's another 15 mins apparently. Thanks Maria Censored L494 3.0L SDV6 Autobiography MY20 in Eiger Grey (Current)

Had a mare getting mine working last week.
Tracked mine down to not having the in car sim set up properly.
When you say you have good signal - how many signals are showing on the screen? There should be one for the car and another for your phone. I only had the phone one. Once I got the car one working, it all spun into action.

Not the same then.
All I can say is that I had calls every day or so from JLR CC updating me on progress and chasing tech support so at least the support from them was impressive even if the dealers are pretty crap.
So hopefully they'll come up with the answer pretty soon.

Yes, until June 2028.

JLR tech have come back to me this morning saying it will have to go in for a 'hardwire check'. Cant see what wiring has go to do with account/vehicle matching, seems to me as the act of removing the VIN from my account has caused the issue, not a physical change. They are the experts I suppose.. L494 3.0L SDV6 Autobiography MY20 in Eiger Grey (Current)

Just an update, this issue is now fixed. Steps taken;

Reset infotainment system via Settings/All Settings/Erase and Reset
B-Call on reboot
Remove Micro Sim
Reinsert Micro Sim
Perform B-Call

Made sure I was in an area of full cellular reception

JLR might have done something behind the scenes for all I know, but once I carried these steps out I was able to add my vehicle to my InControl account. L494 3.0L SDV6 Autobiography MY20 in Eiger Grey (Current)

Did you do that off your own bat or was this a procedure provided by LR?

In my case, I read some comments on here from some very helpful people and that triggered an idea. So whilst LR were certainly very helpful, I'm not convinced they ever got near the actual issue.

This just resonates with a post I was reading on the Discovery Sport forum where a dealer failed to fix a defective car after numerous attempts and the fact that I can't get my RRS into a dealer for 2 months, signifying that they are probably swamped with repeat issues. (And I experienced this myself on a Freelander2 a few years back).

It particularly interests me I guess because I am an IT systems engineer and what really fascinates me in my job is how we diagnose and resolve problems in complex, interconnected systems. I assume I must have a particular talent/instinct for this sort of work as the majority of people I work with seem utterly incapable of connecting what are to me, quite obvious dots. My theory is that LR, equally, is hopeless at doing this.

So for example, if I were running it, I'd go through all reported issues, look at how the system works and put together a simple one-off procedure that covers them all in 1 go.
So SIM (we both did this), plus a reboot (mine was probably rebooted via the software update so may have been significant) and any other steps that may or may not help, in the right order. I'd then post it on the internet and point people with connection issues at that before they were forced to call in. I'd even include it on the pre-delivery process for used cars.

Did it off my own bat. Suggested it to JLR first and they dismissed it, I got the distinct feeling they were going off a troubleshooting script and ticking boxes instead of being pragmatic about it.

Golden rule of anything IT - 1/Turn it off and on again and 2/Factory reset before cracking anything open and looking inside! They wanted to start looking at wiring but it was obviously a pairing issue between the comms of the vehicle and their server. They wouldn't listen to that reasoning.

Like I said it could also have been something they did at their end which coincidentally timed exactly when I did the reset. Just happy it's sorted. L494 3.0L SDV6 Autobiography MY20 in Eiger Grey (Current)
