Fuel Tank Guard MY16

Hello!

Has anyone else had a problem with the fuel tank guard rusting through?

I’ve searched high an low for a replacement part. LR071011

But nowhere has one not even salvaged.

It was an advisory on this years MOT, I suspect it will fail at the next.

Anyone overcome the issue please.

Thanks
Ade

I don't know about the tank guard specifically but had a similar issue with the rear crash bar on my previous car, a Jag XF. The crash bar on those rot out and consequently if you're lucky enough to find a used one, it's borderline scrap in need of considerable welding before you could reasonably use it, and the price is ludicrous simply due to the rarity of functional ones.
My solution was to source one from the southern US (California, Texas etc). They don't rot out over there so they're generally in excellent condition and as they don't rot, the demand is low and so the price is sensible. Few sellers ship to the UK so I then used a shipping company (myus.com) to forward it on. Worked out cheaper overall for a mint example than what I'd have to pay here for a rotted out one. Just look for breakers in the US on the US Ebay.

What a ridiculous situation! Common fault, no after market options and JLR not making any!

Are you sure about the part number? I've searched for that and as you say, found nothing. But if you search for fuel tank cradle, there's loads of options with different part numbers.

That’s the part that LR direct say I needed. I can see other options that are available, but I think they are for different years/variants.

Just odd that there's not even a link to an 'out of stock' listing from google.

It does point to the right sort of item but nothing with that number. I just wonder if LR changed the part number as they're prone to do from time to time or whether there's something up with that one (wrong digit etc).
The Jag XF crash bar I sourced from the US was from a pre-facelift, had a different part number and some quite significant design differences to the one on my car but as they don't normally change the chassis for a facelift, I gambled on the core fixing points being the same - and sure enough, after a few nervous moments, the new one bolted on perfectly and my facelift bumper slotted happily over the top.

I'd imagine the SVR and possibly petrol ones may be different as they have a different tank capacity to the diesels and maybe some allowance for 7 seaters as LR seem to make major changes to accommodate that (or at least they did on the discovery Sport) but 3, maybe 4 different designs max. LR will always use the same part on as many cars as possible if they can get away with it, so I just wonder whether there may be more than one part number that would work?
May be worth asking a dealer or two for the part numbers for your car or maybe even contacting a breaker as they can usually advise if their part will fit you car (and the mistake is then on them).
