2025 Hybrid RR Sport - problems ?

Asked elsewhere about the 2025 Hybrid RR Sport for its range on a full battery and full tank of fuel.

Was told to avoid one if not yet purchased.
Suggested to read about the problems they have and steer away.

Do they have major issues also read they do a MHEV version if any better.

Any comments ?? RRS HSE SDV6 2012

Hi,

I’ve had a D300 MHEV for 20 months - no issues and the best of the five Sports I’ve had. Returns 40mpg + on a run (driving sensibly).

SWMBO has a D250 MHEV Defender (same power plant), had it over four years now, no issue and she loves it.

The MHEV gives you an electric supercharger to get you moving before the turbo then kicks in, it’s a revelation from a standard TDV6/SDV6.

I've just moved over to the D300 from a Jag XF-S which had the V6 Diesel. To be fair, I haven't noticed a dramatic difference in step off between the XF and my RRS but I imagine the V6 RRS was always much less eager due to the greater mass of the car. Still, no complaints here. She's plenty quick enough for the size and whilst I'm sure she'll hustle, if not as well as the Jag, its a car you really don't feel the need, which was the point.
In fact I popped it into "Dynamic" on some twisties on Sunday and tried to drive like I would have done in the Jag ..and quickly put back to auto. Just didn't feel right!

Nice to hear 40mpg is possible. I've only had it a week or so and after the 35-50mpg of the Jag, my current average of 25 is rather uncomfortable! But, if she'll do 40 on a run, that's good enough.

I have a P510e PHEV and with a full battery and a full tank the range shows over 500 miles. I get around 55mpg on the run of 130 miles or so.
I've had 4 RR now and this is by far the best. 2022 P510e RRS AB Frenze Red

I'm a couple of months into ownership of a 2024 P550e. It's probably too early to talk about problems, but the overall efficiency is very refreshing. I did a 220 mile motorway trip yesterday, and starting with a full battery, managed 44mpg combined (ignoring the cost of the electricity consumed), or 32mpg if I subtract the 57 miles that the car claims it covered on EV - frankly amazing for a 2.7 tonne petrol SUV.

As long as you can charge at home, the EV contribution makes the economy very attractive. Even charging at regular domestic prices is still cheaper than petrol; I calculated it would be roughly equivalent to a petrol car doing 42mpg if you pay 26p/kWh for your electricity. If you switch to an off peak tariff and charge at 8p/kWh then the cost of your electric miles becomes negligible.

The biggest game changer is how enjoyable the car is to drive around town in full EV mode. It's beautfully smooth, quiet and responsive, and with a consistent 55+ mile EV range in the warm weather, most of our local trips barely fire up the engine.

The only minor snag I've noticed is that the combined range readout in the trip computer seems to be garbage, with a very pessimistic view of the petrol economy. It typically claims <450 miles from the 70 litre tank and full battery, but 500 miles would be very easy to achieve for motorway driving.

I got my P460e Edition on the June 7th.

Absolutely loving it. Get about 54 miles on electric in normal driving and, despite being only 160bhp on paper, the torque makes it feel much more. Blindingly fast when you put your foot down and hybrid mode kicks in.

So far, no issues, touch wood. The wireless phone charge pad seems pretty useless, but I think that's universal.

Hi,

My wireless charging pad works fine….if I make sure the phone is flat in the tray and not hung up on the front raised lip.

The “dot” indication that it is active on the top left of the Pivi screen is useful too.

I've tried it with and without the case, but the dealer says the camera is the issue. I thought maybe someone would have invented a gadget to lift the charging disk up to the level of the camera, but can't find anything.

So, if you're going on a longer journey, does it make most sense to run in hybrid from the off, rather than running in electric for the first 50-ish miles?

Set the journey in the in car sat nav and put the car in hybrid mode, the car then uses the most efficient method to get there and the battery will be completely depleted when you arrive. If you want to leave some charge for the way home set the destination as a way point and set your home as the final destination, that way you will arrive with half battery left and will leave you with the most efficient way of getting home.
