Just saying Hi

Hi all,
After a couple of years of saying I want an RRS (and spending hours dreaming on autotrader and pistonheads) but it'd be stupid to do anything until my 130,000 mile Jag (2012 XF-S) dies, my Jag died, so I did.

Got myself this beautiful RRS 3.0D (MHEV) Autobiography.
Still trying to adjust my brain to the new MPG reality (no more 50mpg runs for me!) and figure out all the gizmos. LR Customer Services are trying to work out why the app won't connect (service from them has been impressive so far though no fix as yet). I suspect it'll turn out to be a faulty component in the car, which leads me to my only real complaint.
The car is utterly perfect, except for an annoying rattle from the N/S C Pillar. 2 days after collection, I rang the dealer who is 100 miles away but does have a branch fairly local to me. They have booked me in, but couldn't offer an appointment until mid August! - So it seems I have to live with this rattle for 2 months. I guess the only potential positive is that if LRCC eventually decide the app issue is a component, they can do that at the same time. Not really an acceptable delay though.
Still, loving the car.

Welcome

I would be surprised if the App connection issue was an issue in the car.
JLR probably need to do something on their database

Thanks -
today they sent me a software update to install. Downloaded fine but then I got this

It's a fairly normal urban street with at least 2 phone masts nearby, so I don't buy the lack of phone signal, though I am out later for a few hours so I'll try it again when I'm parked up in the car park, just to be on the safe side.
Ive sent this back to them so we'll see what they say.
I am wondering whether the connection and updates all use the phone system and mine is on the blink. Presumably updates can come over the general internet so having the car connected to my house network was enough for the software download (which worked just fine) but it can't call back over 3g or whatever it uses for everything else?
I did notice 2 sim card packs in the glove box (someone else been working on fixing this before I bought it?) but assume that the sim card is just for the hotspot etc and pairing with my phone works just as well?

Arh well that won't help the App

I think the SIM card is for the App and Navigation and updates. (yeah and hotspot)

See if a SIM card is actually present. (my 2019 Jag has it in the center arm rest)
If you can see a coloured card in the hole then its there.

I recently had to remove and reinsert mine, (nav couldn't get live data)
You kind of push the sim in further and then it should pop out I think

It's a '21 plate so 21/22 model.
I did think it was odd that there were 2 sim packets in the glove box. Wondered if someone was having issues with it. Anyway I just had a play. Removed and re-fitted the SIM and followed the instructions to turn on mobile data which it seemed happy with (now have an extra signal strength symbol on the display that I didn't have before).

What's confusing me is that the app connection worked fine on the wife's Discovery Sport without me adding a sim card for in car wifi, so I assumed the car's own connection would be separate to the Ugbi card which I figured would be some sort of optional subscription thing. As I don't need an in car hot spot and would rather run the In-control connectivity through my phone (I have 20x more data that i ever use on my phone contract), I thought i wouldn't need the in car sim.

Anyway, I've kicked off the update again so we'll see whether that helps.

and - well, thanks all.
I now have my car on my app!!
(Why JLRCC didn't have me check the sim I'm not sure - though equally it's possible that it was the sim that allowed the update to work and the update that allowed the app to connect - can't be sure).

Just need to figure out all the renewal options that run out next month and decide what I need to pay for.

Do let me know the renewal cost for the car SIM if that is the one you are talking of.

The Car needs its own data connection, so you can use the app when away from your phone.

Yes I agree, hotspot is a bit pointless these days, but I guess it could be on a better network to someones phone, and maybe have an antenna on the roof

It's a bit confusing when I look at the prices.
Now the app is working, it lists 4 things.
Pro Services - this seems to be the sim card but has no mention of a subscription or expiry date. I've read somewhere that you get this to run concurrent with your warranty. -though it is talking about the new warranty. As the car has 2 years of warranty I wonder whether this is linked to that. I imagine it includes the service button.

Protect - which is just the basic app
Remote Premium - which adds things like remote locking, remote start etc
Secure tracker pro - the tracker.

For renewal
remote premium and secure tracker is £280 for a year (£460 for 2)
In control remote which I believe means remote premium £40 or £60

Having had a Ghost2 installed, I don't feel the need for a tracker for over £200 a year. The insurance company didn't care either way. The car self tracks through the app anyway (albeit not live) and I've a hidden airtag in the car so together with the LR security updates, good enough in my book.
Hence I think I'll probably go for the 2 year in-control remote which is what I've done with the wife's Discovery Sport.

I assume that these also automatically renew the pro-services - but it doesn't say that.
