Intermittant Cntral Locking

For the last 4 years, I have been experiencing periods of up to 6-8 weeks where some doors would not lock or unlock using the remote. Then they suddenly decide to behave and lock and unlock using the remote after the 6-8 week period.

Recently, the driver's door would not unlock using the remote, but pressing the unlock button twice and hold the unlock button pressed while pulling the door handle and the door will open, but if you just press the unlock button twice the door won't open.

I know all about the door locks on Landrover products, which appear to fail after a few years, but I haven't heard about them failing on an intermittent basis over an extended period of time, then suddenly working again.

Have other people experienced such problems?

The locks are obviously not failing completely. My solution is if the locks don't work, I close the driver's door and reach in from the rear passenger door and press the driver's door lock, then press the rear passenger door lock, then close the rear passenger door. Then press the remote lock button. You can hear the locks actuate when the remote lock button is finally pressed.

I was wondering whether the cables going to the locks are partially jamming.

Anyhow, I am not going to replace the locks as I can still lock and unlock the car using the remote.

I think the problem will be when one of them if not more fail completely and you cannot unlock/open a door or doors, and then have to possibly damage a door card or whatever trying to access the lock assy. as I think it is impossible or at least very difficult without damage to remove the card with door closed. Personally I think I would sort it now before something fails completely and have a bigger problem.

Cheers

I hear what you are saying, but if I don't use the Superlock feature, the internal door releases are always connected to the door locks. So as long as I can open one of the doors or even the rear hatch I can get access into the vehicle without removing the door cards.
Besides the vehicle is hardly ever locked so the chances of all door lock actuators failing and not being able to access the vehicle is very remote. It's not so much a cost of replacing the door locks but the agro of replacing the door locks that gets me (I have replaced Discovery 3 locks and they are a pain, so I know what the issues are) and if the door locks still work (occasionally) why replace them, I can still lock and unlock the vehicle, I just don't have the luxury of just pressing the remote - a convenience thing. It doesn't affect how the vehicle drives.

I remember the days when vehicles did not have central locking, so it is not a big deal.
