How do the cars get enabled for OTA updates?

I'm hopefully picking up at 2016 plate, but MY17 RRS in a week or 2, and was hoping I could get carplay enabled with some kind of software update.
I'd seen some mentions of that maybe being possible, but I've yet to find any definitive proof!

At that age I guess it's not from a main dealer?
If it is a 2017 then you can get CarPlay if it has the correct software version.
Check it in the settings before you take delivery?

Mine was done by the dealer calling Land Rover, maybe you can call Customer Services to get it enabled? 2023 P440e SE Dynamic on order -cancelled

No, not from a main dealer unfortunately.
But it does have the more modern infotainment with the wider screen with no hardware buttons, so yes hopefully it might just be a case of taking into a main dealer and seeing what they say!

Or perhaps when I get it, I'll just stick a sim card in it and see what happens.

Thanks for the reply jimbg, the car was in the main dealers to try to have any upgrades done about 18 months ago, i gave them all the info they asked for so i presume it is enabled.

They tried to update the software but said it would not load, and they wanted a fortune to diagnose the issue, no faults showed up when they scanned it, even the telematics showed no faults….to be honoust i had no confidence that the tech knew what he was doing as all he did was waffle on one on about the amount of things it could be and the cost of parts possibly required.

I wish we had a decent small independant up here in the northeast that we could trust to do the job and not take your eyes out.

You could try calling Land Rover Customer Support and ask if your VIN is enabled for OTA updates.

Hi i remember when i first got the car, the infomat system etc was still registered to the previous owner, i had many emails with customer support, them asking for my purchase invoice V5 in my name etc, before they could change everything, which they did, is this the same thing as the OTA?.
