I had a similar issue with mine, and had to just clean up the mating face of any rust, paint and burrs etc. now fit's fine, would also suggest you get one of these as a precaution when fitted.

So the pin should fire all the way out like it does when not on the car? Okay, I’ll have a go at cleaning the surfaces up a little bit.

I can't remember exactly, but if the pin does not fire out far enough to lock the hitch in place the green lock bit does not rotate far enough to remove the key that locks it.
