Detachable tow bar seated correctly?

Hi All,

My car has the tow bar prep and I have recently purchased a detachable tow bar hitch to go with it. When testing the hitch off the car I notice that the large securing pin comes out maybe an inch when the smaller spring loaded pin is activated.

However, when seating it in the car the large securing pin only seems to come out approx half an inch. It does engage with the hole and feels secure but I was just wondering whether it is normal for it to be different on and off the car.

I hope that makes sense, so many in innuendo’s Laughing Laughing

Thanks All!

I had a similar issue with mine, and had to just clean up the mating face of any rust, paint and burrs etc. now fit's fine, would also suggest you get one of these as a precaution when fitted.

Cheers

So the pin should fire all the way out like it does when not on the car? Okay, I’ll have a go at cleaning the surfaces up a little bit.

What is that plate? Can it be purchased as a kit from somewhere?

Many thanks!

I can't remember exactly, but if the pin does not fire out far enough to lock the hitch in place the green lock bit does not rotate far enough to remove the key that locks it.

Example of security plate kit, but if you google it plenty of alternative suppliers and prices come up.
