I’m reaching out to the community for some input. I have a 2015 L494 with 54,000 miles, and both front steering knuckles have developed cracks. The vehicle has been meticulously maintained at a dealership its entire life — no accidents, never off-road, always garage-kept, and driven in a southern climate with minimal to no road salt exposure.
I’ve already posted in a few other forums but wanted to check here as well:
Have any other L494 owners experienced cracked steering knuckles?
From what I’m seeing, this seems like a systemic issue. If it is, I’d like to compile some owner feedback to present to the NHTSA and Jaguar Land Rover North America. My goal is to push for the L494s to be included in the existing recall for L405s, which suffer from the same problem.
Currently, my L494 is at the dealership, officially diagnosed with cracked knuckles and failed ball joints (likely a side effect of the knuckle issue). The service manager is contacting JLR to see if they’ll offer goodwill assistance.
Based on my research, the L494 and L405 use the same steering knuckles, so it seems pretty clear this isn’t an isolated defect.
If you’re a USA or North America-based owner who’s experienced this as well, could you please share your story? It would be really helpful for building a stronger case.
Thanks in advance for your help!

The L405 suffers, and there is an active recall for it
The L494, as well as the Discovery 5 also suffers from exactly the same problem, but JLR don't recognise it as a safety issue
Apparently, the Velar and F-Pace also suffer from it, though nowhere near as common
