Hi, I have a 2024 RR Sport 460e, and it seems to have problems running as purely EV. I get an error message on the dashboard display saying " EV temporarily not available" and it just runs on petrol engine alone. Most times when I stop and turn off the engine it seems to reset itself and run ok as a hybrid again - but not every time.
The supplying dealer (Stratton Tonbridge) want to charge me £225 for a diagnosis report, which I'm not willing to pay for what must surely be a warranty issue? Car is 8 months old with less than 4k miles.
Has anyone else experienced this fault please, and if so what was involved?

Could be the HV heater.

Turn the heating off and see if it starts in EV mode, then try it with a high AC temperature and see if if it starts in EV mode.
If it does start with a high temperature on the AC, then it's because it is using the engine to generate heat as the HV heater has maybe failed.

The other reason the engine starts is because you have a high 12 volt load, such as heated screens on, heated steering wheel, etc. Then that is Okay. 2026 P460e Autobiography on order

I have the P510e and the same thing occurs to me when I first start the car in the morning. I drive for about 5 miles and then I can select EV only, before then I get the same message as you.

My local dealer told me that this was because the petrol engine had to get warm first, upto normal temperature, and also the start battery had to be at a certain voltage.

I would just like to start off in the garage at home in EV mode. and select hybrid and let it do its own thing. 2022 P510e RRS AB Frenze Red

It's always possible to drive in pure EV mode if you do not have a heavy 12 volt load.
My P400e is kept on the drive and always works in pure EV mode unless I switch on the heated screens, etc.
Next time you drive off make sure you are in EV mode and no heated screens on. If the engine starts you have a fault, almost certainly the HV heater.

Our P460e is running as an EV for the majority of the time despite low temps. Our P300e DS however had the same symptoms as above and needed both a new HV heater and various software refreshes.

I had two HV heaters replaced on my P400e - it’s a well known problem as already said and why I’d never recommend anyone to get a P400e.

Standard dealership behaviour, sadly. They've had your money so they're not interested in helping you now.  2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

The failure has one thing in common : Webasto, the producer of the heaters.

What strikes me is that ALL cars that have the LG-Chem batteries ( I-Pace, Taycan, Audi ),
also have the same heater problems, with the same heater.

But why the P400e ( I used to own a P400e RR, and joined the forum thinking of buying a RRS),
has the same problems : could it be the same partnumber heater element ?

What I read in the last few posts definitely puts me off getting a P400e / P440e/ P460e /
P510e of Land Rover or Jaguar, as even the DS has this problem.

Before production of P440e started they knew the heater was an an issue.
It feels like an 'encore' of the misery with the TdV6, that also festered on for a decade almost.

If you have Land Rover Assistance within warranty you can call them and they will send out someone (or the AA) and do a diagnostic for free. I have used them several times.

LRA diagnosed a faulty battery cooling system pump on my wifes P400E, we booked it in and it was fixed under warranty at no cost. RRS Autobiography P460E

I asked LRA to come out and they refused as the car could be driven on the engine and therefore was not broken down.  2026 P460e Autobiography on order

JLR have just diagnosed my EV problem, not selecting EV mode until its been driven for about 15 minutes as the HV heater.
However the local Land Rover dealer does not have the "special tool" needed to replace it, so I have to drive the car about 50 miles to the next dealer for the work to be done.
