Hi all - considering our first RRS and have a £27k (give or take £3k!) conundrum.

We do mostly short trips - daily commute / school run is under 10 miles in total, with perhaps a handful of longer UK holiday trips every year. We already have a charger at home, so the logical choice would be the P400e. £25-30k would get us some pretty decent examples from 2018/19, even some highly specced AB ones!

But for pretty much the same money we've realised we can afford a prefacelift SVR.

We prefer the newer infotainment / Apple Carplay, and think the prefacelift cabin is starting to look a little dated. But that soundtrack from the V8...

Argh. Would love any insights from you!

i would base it on insurance, i would love an svr and the car is affordable but i can not justify the mega insurance jump from the sdv8 i have already

Insurance is really messed up. For me the SVR is coming out at £2050 and the P400e at nearly £3000!

For that use, the hybrid makes the only sense as you'll be able to do much of the local stuff in EV mode. The SVR probably won't like being driven for such short journeys and, of course, there will be the temptation to let rip when not fully warmed up (because we're all school boys at heart ).

Frankly, for that use an RRS isn't a great option at all and an EV or something "ordinary" would make more sense (and be cheaper). But if you're going to get an RRS, get the hybrid. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

SVR all day, I went from L405 SDV8 to SVR, stretch for one in the cheaper tax bracket though.

Insurance for my SVR is just under £1500, L405 was only 700....Man maths cured that one as 2017 SVR's fall into £190 tax bracket, the L405 was £735 i think the last time i taxed so kinda balanced out.

In all honesty though if I saw a 2018+ L405 5.0SC come up with the right spec and price I'd be back in an L405. Perfect blend of power and comfort.

SVR will bring back reasonable 20's mpg at sub 100 autobahn cruising speeds , get stuck on a smart motorway and you can get into the 30's just



One thing to conisder.....the SVR sounds like an angry bd on cold start and will rattle the house, will cough and fart out of the exhaust even with the valves closed when you are trying your hardest to keep it quiet. Current

Get a 66 plate or 17 plate SVR. You should get CarPlay then. I wouldn’t be getting any though if you are having to fork out ridiculous amounts for insurance when you’re on a 30k budget. These are not cheap to look after if you want to do it properly.

In Italy we get a subsidized form of insurance for the hybrid
