Tyres

I’ve just bought some Overfinch Elara’s 22 inch, the front tyres are perished and cracked on outer edges and the rears are cheap Sailun tyres.

I’ve had my fair share of cars in the past and experienced a few tyre brands.

Continental are pretty good but tend to be softer compound. Michelin wear well but limited and crazy priced for the size I need.

285/35/22

Can anyone recommend specifically a good wearing tyre from experience for the heavy Sport please?

I was looking Hankook, but people say they don’t last as long as expected, Good year maybe, possibly the continental sport contact 7 has better tread wear?

Any constructive help and experiences welcomed.

Cheers

Dean

Falken Azenis FK510 Evo in 285/35/22 I chose for those who are interested, probably not.

I was recommended the tyre by Wheelmania in Birmingham whereby I'm have the Overfinch Elara's refurbished. Priced very competitively at 174.12 a tyre, easily 100 less than a Hankook or Pirelli Scorpion zero in the same size.

Tyres are very much a preference thing. And as someone who doesn't run huge wheels (I run ATs on 19in rims), I wouldn't be much use giving feedback. Rolling with laughter

Glad you sorted something out in reasonable budget. For a pure road tyre, I usually Michelin CrossClimate2 as they're a great all year round tyre, but I don't know if they're available in your size. I fitted the car version to SWMBO last car and they were ideal for her. The current car will have them fitted when the tyres are next changed.

As an aside, I noticed your chosen tyre fitted on a L494 5.0SC I was idly looking at on Autotrader at lunchtime. So you're not alone in fitting them to RRS. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Quick update......

fitted the Overfinch Elara's and Falken FK510 285/35/22 tyres all round.

I can't believe the noise difference, the car is night and day for quietness now, and rides like a dream.

I had General Grabber AT3's before on the 20's with a 45 profile, so bloody noisey, the rears were above the wear bars, but I felt whilst driving for the past 11 months since buying the car I had wheel bearing hum (front & rear) or diff/gearbox hum noises, but no, it was the tyres all along.

For the life of me, I'm not sure why people fit the grabbers?????, yes they've done 30,000 miles as far as I can make out from a previous owners admission of fitting them in 2020, but I'd never buy them again.

Not sure of the point to be honest, they look ugly, wrong size and the drone whilst driving is mind numbing!!! and drove me insane and had me thinking there was an issue with wheel bearings and such like.

Its like a new car, its bliss right now.

I've seen posts on here, for tyre pressures with 22's, Id seen a post of an Overfinch owner having been told by Land Rover/Overfinch to stick to standard pressures - 33 psi front and 36 psi rear, so that's what I've gone with with the 22's.

Cheers Dean

A new summer tyre is always going to be quieter than a worn all terrain tyre which I believe the Grabber is hence the AT bit Laughing , unless things have improved in the U.K. I think I would be more concerned with low profile tyres, 22" rims and potholes. Smile

Personal preference I guess Col.............

Im not a mud plugger, the General Grabber AT3 tyres were purchased by a previous owner and I'm glad Ive got them removed off the car.

As for UK pot holes, its all about avoidance and keeping your hand eye coordination sharp.

I just can't believe how much road noise they created, I'm all for enjoying the luxury car it was meant to be originally, it left the factory with road tyres, so road tyres are the way forward for me whatever size they may be. Looks wise, being an Overfinch wheel, they're designed for the car from the off.

People fit Grabber AT3 because they want/need a winter-rated all-terrain tyre. They work well off road and in winter conditions, e.g. going shooting.

I don't understand why people fit rubber band tyres on 22 inch rims but that's the joy of personal choice. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
