Extended seond year warranty

Hi All

My P400 HSE will be arriving this week (hopefully)

Is it worth taking second years warranty during purchase? Dealer price for second year is £968

I suspect when it comes to do it next year, the price will be higher than that if I have to renew it myself. Any body has any experience on that?

car is 69 plate , 37k miles for now

Any other warranty which may be worth considering than the extended manufacturer one?

I think that price isn’t too bad for the manufacturer one. I have a Warranty Direct one and pay just over £1K a year and have had a few successful warranty claims with them so all good far. I think it’s worth getting a quote from Warranty Direct to see how much they would charge you.

You need to read the small print of the LR warranty and any others you look at, specifically the list of exclusions - hiding the exclusion of an expensive repair in the small print (or behind carefully worded phrasing) is not unusual, especially with the LR dealer warranty (which is provided by a third party rather than LR themselves). 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

From what I've read, the LR warranty is pretty comprehensive.

I view extended car warranty the same as pet insurance - a large expense for something you hopefully will never need. I just pay an amount per month into a savings account for these kinds of expenses - at least I know I'm not paying money into something I'll never get back if it's not needed.

One could argue that having it serviced by someone who knows Land Rovers will help mitigate problems before they occur and thus save some money. 2021 P400e Autobiography

A decent LR specialist garage is definitely key to owning LR products. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Thanks guys for your replies.

putting money aside a one way to pay for anything if needed, but worried about the bigger expenses like new engine, air suspensions etc

I know when it comes to it, it will be hard to get the money out of them but just wanted to know if you are of the same views as I am

I’d advise to do a bit of research on what issues affect the late year L494 vehicles and take more of a considered decision.

From what I’ve read up, there’s more issues affecting pre-facelift cars than affects the late year cars. So look at the issues but take a note of the age of the cars.

Not all JLR cars suffer from the same problems - components get updated and improved all the way through the production cycle.

There a ton of scare stories out there so take a more measured and educated look at the real world scenarios

As stated before, good maintenance will save you money and worry. 2021 P400e Autobiography

Thank you buddy
Got my car yesterday, 69 plate P400 with 37k miles on it.
First impression is good, quite different to my 520d, hopefully drive it bit more today

It's more of a relaxing comfort drive for sure. Things get a bit more lively when you put it into Dynamic and Sports modes. I don't tend to do that too much, prefer the comfort than the speed. 2021 P400e Autobiography
