I you don't replace the steps you will need some uncut sill covers, you will need to remove them to take the brackets off in any event. | ||

Find some S/H ones if needed as stupid money as usual from L/R best part of two hundred quid each. If they are original pre-cut one's or some one made a decent job of the cut-out's you may not even need to replace them as the cut-out's may be underneath out of site.
