This. £9,368... Shocked

A bonnet is £1500
Wing is £540
Headlight is £1400

What's more shocking is the retail price of the headlight from JLR is £1,404 + VAT
I can buy a brand new Valeo unit (who make them for JLR) for less than £400 Rolling Eyes

So you'll buy it back and fix it for not very much, presumably? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

So that makes me the winner being the only one to suggest second hand parts and I found them cheaper than you.
Can you explain how you can be asked to buy your own car back from the insurance? When did it become there car to sell?

If they write it off, they give you market value for it. At that point, it's their car because they effectively buy it off you in that transaction. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Why would you do that? as you would in effect be paying market value for a damaged car, take the market value pay out , buy it back for salvage value (assuming they will sell it back) and use the pay out balance to buy s/h parts to repair it, and hopefully have some cash left over, and still have the repaired car.

Cheers
Col

So if the pay out value is more than they want for the car thats fine.

Must read the policy fine print. Always listen to old people or when they die you will live on in ignorance.

The damage is not that bad. If they are going to write the car off it doesnt make sence to insure such a vehicle. You wouldnt bother insuring just get 3rd party property.

Hi,

Could be anything after my recent experience.

Some a**hole clipped the OSR corner of my new D300 AB and bu**ered off without so much as a by-your-leave! A small dent in the wheelarch and a few cuts & grazes.

“Approved” repairer via dealer = £2230
Non-approved No.1 via dealer = £1380
Non-approved No.2 via dealer = £900
Local repairer = £533.

Took non-approved No.2 so there’s no issues with warranty in the future. Approved bodyshop were part of the dealers own group and even they were astounded at the quote!!

To buy a car back is usually around £1000-2000 (maybe more in this case). Basically the scrap value.

The more they pay out though, the more it is to buy it back, (small %) (well that was the case with Admiral)

Hi,

I have front and rear JLR dashcams.

The car was covered in Somerset farmland detritus -mud and cow Censored - until I was washing the car for a friends wife’s funeral, I didn’t spot the damage.

A full download of both dashcams revealed nothing as they had already “looped” and over written the event, if they had captured it at all.
