2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

Hi
when i turn the indicator on, an aux light comes on from the side light area of the lights, is this normal

2006 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

Late 06 models have the side projecting bulb but with the adaptive headlights. I noticed it on an HSE in the summer and found that it had been added to the standard spec without anyone promoting it! I'm such a geek! TDV8 HSE in Java/Ebony with Zebrano Wood, RSE, Hybrid TV, and a few other bells and whistles.

When you first switch them on, AH perform a little checkup "dance"... That's pretty much the only cool thing about them! Seriously, I find adaptive headlights to be most useless and overhyped technology. I wouldn't miss them if they took them away tomorrow. In the US, where adaptive headlights are standard equipment on most trims, some have complained the headlights shake and vibrate quite badly over bumps and broken pavement, disturbing oncoming traffic (I noticed the vibrations myself, although I don't find them that extreme.) I am guessing that is not a problem with fixed xenons.

I don't think the headlights "turn" if you are stationary - at least mine don't. I have to be moving.

The little "checkup dance" is a Xenon feature - the self leveling cycles through to the correct aim height. The vibration you describe is definitely not a problem with the fixed Xenons and I agree...I see no benefit from the adaptive headlamps - the RRS regular Xenons provide ample light as it is.

You can tell if you have adaptive lights if there is sort of a swivel mechanism to the lamp housing. The regular Xenons don't have this.

Finally - the illumination of the side projecting lamp when turning also occurs with the regular Xenons as I have (MY06). This feature is not unique to the adaptive lamps.

There are two bulbs in the "parking light" housing (located at the bottom outboard of the lamp cluster). The lower bulb is illuminated at the "park" setting - the centre mounted but side projecting bulb, is illuminated when the turn signal is used and the headlamps are on. In the US we don't have side approach lamps, I had them on my early 90's Mercury Cougar and miss them dearly... Forbidden by law. Apparently, a pedestrian got "blinded" by one of those cornering lamps when crossing a street a few years back and walked into another car, sued the manufacturer and won. Only in America! I'm sorry, but the "dance" of the AH xenons is far sexier than the fixed beams'... Side to side, up and down, criss cross and back in place.
