Are rear brake line replacement always body off?

Hi All,

Its service time for my 2012 MY RRS S/C. Seems to be reaching an age whereby some things are getting tired. This time, its the rear brake line is leaking around where it clips in. In your opinion, should this be a body off job?

I really hope not....... Any thoughts gratefully received. Cheers,

Not necessarily, mostly you can graft new bits onto the sound ends of the existing brake lines.
But you really need a good indi.

Yikes! Don't let a main dealer do it! Cost alone will be silly and then they'll probably mess it up too - plenty of examples of main dealers being pretty rubbish if you look around the forum. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Too true. I wish it wasn’t there. Being risk adverse, I’ve also kept the LR extended select warranty. This included MOT failure cover up to £750 with a £50 excess. If they want to lift the body, it’s way beyond that much. Might be ok with an inde. Let’s see if they approve the claim or, I’ll have to make another plan. Cheers,

You can use the warranty elsewhere - it's provided by a third party and so long as the warranty co and the indie are happy to work together it's ok. I used mine at an indie once a few years ago admittedly. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Well, at least the warranty team approved the claim. As its dropping an (apparently) alarming amount of brake fluid and its at the AD, I'm going to leave it there.

Appreciate you comments as I've got a good inde nearby but, its a logistical PITA to move it to them. Lesson learned! Cheers,

At least if the warranty is covering it, you're not going to be out of pocket.

I would check everything works when you collect it - screen wash, for example, as the pipes can be reconnected the wrong way round leading to the rear screen wash going when you want the front. BTDT. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

When a main dealer lifted the body on my TDV8, they not only messed up reconnecting the wash pipes, they managed to damage the steering rack (requiring a new rack) by, I'm fairly sure, forgetting to disconnect the column before lifting the body. That was bloody scary to discover as I drove out of the dealership in to traffic - the steering was vague to say the least. When I drove it back in to the dealership and the service manager took it back in to the garages, he asked how I'd managed to drive it at all.

Fair comment, take your point. However, if they want to lend me an SVR or a FF (the new one), I'll take it for a spin.

I'm thinking this may be the end of the RRS road for me though for this one at 12 years old. I have it for 8 and its been a good car. Might sell. Quite fancy a SVR F-Pace........ Cheers,

Oh, and re: the broken steering rack - the dealer even had the temerity to claim for it on the LR warranty. I kid you not.

I do wonder what I might get next. Problem is, I do rather like the whole feel of driving the RRS (both this one and the previous one) so could see myself in another.

Dealer temerity is a whole topic on its own! I know the General Manager at this dealer positively winces when he sees me calling Big Cry . We've had several...... conversations. The first world is a tough place indeed.

I hear you on the joy of ownership with these though: I've been driving them across the 2 I've owned since 2008. With prices soft ATM, maybe its time for another MY2018 or newer. I hear they have their own issues though and insurance costs are mad with them being open to being nicked.

Problem for me is the L320 fits my life really well. It will be tough to change. More first world issues. Rolling with laughter Cheers,
