Yes. The car has been in the repair centre for over a month now and they are still waiting for the wiring looms for the repair to start. The total cost of repair is £17,500 which is a ludicrous amount for a theft that only lasted 10 minutes. They are hoping they will receive the wiring looms this month and finish the repair at the end of November, but they still haven't got any update from the supplier so We might be waiting until the new year for the repair to finish.

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Santorini Black

I can confirm that the Ghost works in the situation described above. So far it has prevented a relay theft for me (they got into the car but couldn't start it when I forgot to put the key in its faraday case; no damage, they triggered the LR tracker and the phone call woke us up and the lights scared them off) and from cutting open the boot lid as shown in the OPs photos which happened last night. They didn't manage to get into the car.

Car is a 21 plate SVO, in black, black pack etc.

The downside is that this "new" approach requires a new boot (the whole thing) which is £1400+fitting+VAT, and then a new wiring loom, and testing etc. So likely £3k minimum to repair.

Honestly thinking about downgrading to a Volvo to avoid all this grief but I think the Ghost 2 is utterly awesome... I'll always have one on my car going forward.

Unfortunately it seems that the more complicated the on board electronics get the easier the low life get round it?

it does seem like if you’ve a Ghost then it’s better to leave keyless entry enabled and not use a faraday pouch - so that the car is not damaged in any attempt to steal it. Does this make sense?

jovenden,

If you read the releases about 18MY vehicles onward, or have an L461, they use UWB technology to defeat “relay” thefts. It also negates the need for metal boxes or faraday pouches.

According to recent figures only 13 out of 13800 new L461’s have been stolen. (0.07%)

Google is your friend!

I have a GHOST 2 on my L461 as well - belt & braces.

Hi

I’m picking up my car (2019 SDV8) on Friday and i have been informed that the N693 update has been applied.

I’m concerned (who wouldn’t be with the bad news of range rover thefts) about getting the security right. I don’t know how to validate how secure the car is with the update having been applied. I have bought a faraday cover for the keys.

I asked the dealer about disabling keyless entry.

I’m intending to get a Ghost 2.

Just really not sure what i *should* do?

jovenden,

I can recommend www.trackershop-uk.co.uk for a GHOST.

Mine disables gear selection and they come to you.

Takes a couple of hours to fit and configure.

They sometimes have a 5% off promotion so that’s £475 fitted with 2 yrs warranty and no subscription.

It won’t stop the toe rags attacking your car like before, but you should still have a car to repair as GHOST isn’t “advertised” as being fitted on the car. They may still try - but won’t go anywhere. Using “guardian mode” on your LR tracker (if you have it) is another layer of protection too as that alerts even if the original key is used to access the car when active!!!

Thanks Scrumps - am looking at Tracker Shop now - there's a 5% offer (useful Very Happy ) - looks like the Ghost or the Scorpion - the latter is a tracker as well as immobiliser and operates off a fob as opposed to entering a PIN.

The Scorpion therefore seems like it might be an easier day to day usage proposition but of course the primary interest is of course protection then followed by ease-of-use.

Any thoughts on the pros & cons of these two in comparison to each other (ignoring the potential ongoing cost of a subscription for the scorpion)?

Hi jovenden,

I looked at both but went GHOST.

My logic, if the immobiliser works, then you don’t need a tracker as it’s where you left it.

If some low life has my Sport away - I don’t want it back, first year I have “new for old” on my insurance then have GAP cover for subsequent years.

There’s a debate on FB about GHOST having been compromised but a guy on there fits them and offered the guy mouthing off £5000 if he could provide evidence GHOST had been cracked.

I mainly use my GHOST with the App, so it’s totally seamless. If I need to, the PIN is easy to use, easy to change and setting “service mode” sorts out any garage visits.

I’ve got secure tracker pro, use Guardian Mode on the App and have GHOST - I think I’ m reasonably safe! Very Happy

Hi thanks for the additional info!

I wasn't aware there was an app that could provide a near seamless experience - better still. Is this son iPhone, any problems with it (the app)?

I did have a thought about the "service mode" - which seems to allow up to 30mph - not really going to cut it if the car is being road tested by the garage after a repair? I may be misremembering the details so forgive me if I'm spouting rubbish here - went to check my sources - here:

https://autowatch.co.uk/ghost-service-valet

Am I overthinking this?

cheers

Hi jovenden,

The App is on the Apple Istore. A GHOST can be “paired” to two iPhones with a code given to you by the installer (on a code card).

If the phone is within 10m of the vehicle and the App is running (in the background) and “switched on”, the GHOST recognises it, disables and off you go. No issue so far in two months.

Service mode, yes, disables if driven over 30mph for more than 15 mins. You can simply engage service mode, or change the PIN to something simple and declare it to the garage then revert back when you collect the car. Changing the PIN is no more difficult than setting service mode.

Hi - thanks again for the info - I'm sure they've got this all nailed down - but it feels like if the app is running on the phone and the phone is say in the kitchen you could easily be within 10m of the parked car, thereby disabling the immobiliser inadvertently..?

I'm sure I've missed something obvious - just not obvious enough for me Smile

thanks again

jovenden,

Yes I agree about “in the kitchen”, but you missed the bit in my previous post about “switched on”.

When the App is running, there is an “on/off” button to disable the GHOST.

Leave the App running, and switch “on” when required, or leave it “on” and kill the App when you go into the house.

Don’t overthink this, you’re not the first to fit a GHOST.

Very Happy
