Looking to buy an SDV8 soon.

First of all maybe a bit of a crazy time to buy with all the uncertainty around insurance, but could also work out in the long run. I just think that surely LR will have to step in soon to do something or it could seriously damage the company. Anyway, I’m looking at a 63 plate Fuji White SDV8, with the obligatory Santorini Black roof, black and white two tone interior, nice looking car. Full service history, part LR part specialist/normal garage and 5 owners. Now being new to LR stuff and the stories of reliability makes me question the 5 owners part, my head thinks it’s maybe been a problem car that’s been punted on due to having problems. I know it’s not the best metric to use as my missus’ uncle had a low owner 65 plate SDV6 and had nothing but bother with it.

I also seen another one, very similar to the first but with ivory and black interior. Although it has FLRSH and only 2 owners.

So to get to the crux of it, would the 5 owners be a deal breaker for you guys who are more up to speed with the brand? Or I am looking too much in to it? My head says the second one but much prefer the look of the first one.

All other things being equal, I’d be siding with the second one for reasons you suggest.

It’s splitting hairs here though, as the SDV8 is the reliable one compared to the V6. We do tend to look to into it, as we hear more bad stories than the good stories. I can’t say much, I ended up with the SCV8, BUT I was willing to go for any of them IF the right car came up.

You never mentioned colour of second one?

Yeah I never did. It is essentially the same. Fuji White with Santorini Black roof, black and ivory interior along with silver 22" alloys. The first one has black alloys. Forgot to mention both cars are around 60k miles. So they are very similar in looks and spec.

Spoke to the guy I've been dealing with in regards to the first one. Got the registration number and checked the last MOT etc. The last MOT in July had advisories for both front lower suspension arm bushes being worn but not resulting in excess movement. Not expensive parts I know, and could change them myself. Also that MOT was the first mention of an oil leak. The sales guy assures me the leak has been rectified, he says it was the oil cooler and there is evidence of it being sorted. He said that the car will have a fresh MOT before sale and the arms replaced. The pessimist in me still has doubts.

My issue now is the second garage have not got back to me after 2 emails in the last 3 or 4 days. I would have thought they would snap my arm off to get a Range Rover moved given he current climate.
