New suspension compressor

Apparently my 4.2SC needs a new compressor. Plenty out there and some quite cheap. Anyone had any experience of the £150 ones ? They come with 12 month warranty, so thinking potentially worth a pop as they’re not too difficult to replace.

I bought a cheap one off ebay. so far so good. It had a 2 year warranty, but if it lasts that long, then I'm still better off than spending circa £450 on a genuine AMK one.

It's been on the car about 9 months now, and I use access mode a lot.

Just make sure you get one with all the loom as well, as some are just a bare compressor.

I’m minded to do the same - did yours come with a bracket as well ?

I did, but I used the existing one and transferred the new mounts over

After mucho searching and reading I've sorted out the solution. There's 2 types on eBay, an original Hitachi style for around £120, but without bracket and an AMK style for around the same price, without bracket.

They're not the same - the Hitachi have a 6 wire pin connector, whereas the AMK style have a 2 wire pin connector.

The mounting bracket is only applicable to the AMK style and if you buy that separately from the pump, you'll probably not end up with the isolating mount/bolts. These are crucial as they stop the pump transmitting noise through the chassis.

I've ended up going with a full kit of AMK style pump, complete with mounting bracket and all the hoses, relay, connectors etc that you'd need. It also comes with a new plastic housing with the foam sound deadening in it. I thought it prudent given the existing is likely to be somewhat deteriorated.

It was £220 all in, but it's peace of mind and can fit and forget. An AMK with bracket and isolation bolts was £190.

New pump in and working well. No more issues accessing various heights, or getting the "clear obstacle" error message. Goes up, goes down. Nice.

£300 all in including fitting, programming, pump, relay, bracket and a new housing.

My rear diff whine seems to have disappeared as well, but need to drive when my son isn't in the car playing his Wham CD (he's 10, so getting a good broad 80's music education) to fully verify that. Suspect what I thought was the diff was the pump, but not sure I'm that lucky...
