Oil Leak - Drivers side on an LHD

Hello,

I am experiencing smoke coming from the left side of the engine very soon like when driving away cold and doing for only 3 kilometers. Seen from underneath the turbo is quiet wet (black engine oil).

The car is a L494 RRS 3.0 Tdv6 HSE with 250 hp.

To your opinion, should I start looking at a split inlet manifold or oil feed pipe loosing oil at the copper washers or tube ?

I cleaned the EGR valve 100 kilometers ago and it stays rather clean (no explicit oil on top of it)

Right now starting the smoke test (under 1 bar of pressure) directly into the left inlet manifold after removing the "Y".

Any help welcome.

Thanks,

Koen

Look at the exhaust tailpipe. If the engine stopped at a valve overlap moment then it’ll be going in the intake and out the exhaust.

Is there an auxiliary Webasto heater? They can smoke now and then and this is the season for them to start firing up (my timed heater is coming on as I type).

As for the oil, better to hunt down the cause than just hoping you replace the right part. Inlet manifold gasket, turn feed, turbo drain, etc. could be the culprit, but need to make sure which it is. I’d start with cleaning things then checking again in a few days. 2011 RRS HSE Luxury 3.0 TDV6 Fuji White on Ebony/Ivory

Hello and thank you for the reply.

I didn't know that inlet and outlet valve could be open at the same moment ... ?
I checked the exhaust and no smoke escaping that way.
If an exhaust valve is open, inlet should be closed so smoke cannot enter the cylinder (I think).

The problematic smoke is really rising above the left hand turbo, so no Webasto thing.
I know the Webasto smoke from my Discovery 3 Wink

On Monday I 'll remove the left EGR to have a look at the top of the left turbo.
Ideas still welcome.

In attachment a picture of what I think is the oil inlet of the left turbo.
Looks quiet oily.
What kind socket do I need to loosen the banjo bolt?
Is that a 36-spline ?

I 'll keep this post alive with the real problem hopefully soon resolved.

Making progress

Part number LR038163 has arrived.
The splines-problem is solved.
What I could not see with my endoscope was the Torx on top of the banjo bolt.

Replacing LR038163

Now I could use some advise.
Anyone already changed this piece (nr. 1 on the picture)?
Can't see none of the three connections ...
What do I have to take apart ?
