Hi ozwiz. Can these settings be used with 285/35/22"s on RRS 2008?? Cheers.

yep I'd like to know this too as mine is in at the moment Thumbs Up

Yes,you can confidently use these specs for up to 26" rims! Only different wheel offset will require toe-in change.

Me too Pleaseee, just put a set of 285/35/22's Toyo proxies on and taken a set of 20's off, started to get a steering wheel wobble at 50mph but goes when I hit 70mph. Was told it will be alignment /tracking/balancing and before I take it anywhere It would be nice to have the correct settings if possible. Embarassed PS offset/ negative and camber etc etc is double dutch to me im a wee bit thick in the technical area . Laughing

Alignment/tracking/balancing is 3 different issues. Are your 22's aftermarket and did they come with the hub locators? Wheel wobble is seldom a geometric issue.

Is my dealer likely to be willing to set my wheel alignment up on my new car as above, or are they obliged to set it up as per LR's instructions? Won't there be talk of waivers, disclaimers and warranties? Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1.8::MG Montego Turbo::MGB GT::Rover Sterling::MGF::MG ZT 190+

[quote="ozwiz"]PB,since you asked so nicely, here are the guidelines for your wheel alignments.

Start with the rear camber which should be around the 1 deg negative a side. The wheels will have to be removed for this so i recommend getting the dealer to lock the suspension for the most consistent readings.Toe-in has proven to be effective at 2mm total(both sides combined) with the above camber.

For the front, make sure your balljoints and control arm bushes are good, then adjust the left camber to 1 degree negative and the right side .5 to .75 of a degree or 30-45 minutes of 1 degree negative. The caster should be around 4 degrees positive on each side with a slight variation to offset road camber.Tyre quality and radial pull can influence this factor.Set the toe to 1mm for each wheel or 2mm total. All toe must be positive,NOT negative as some recommend.

The 18" size tyres are much more forgiving to wheel angle errors than the 19 and 20" rim sizes.I've been horrified to see extremely expensive tyres worn after only 15,000klms.For these larger rims,i recommend at least 40psi of pressure in all tyres if you want any sort of life out of them.Regular rotation is the other crucial factor with these very wide and flat tread design. These last 2 factors can make or break your tyres lifespan regardless of w/a specs.Personally,i would rotate every 5,000klms,however the original tyres on these models were never designed to last long anyway.

Make sure you find a workshop who is willing to do a good job as per specs the first time and get a computer printout for the job to prove the settings are where you want them.My local Land rover dealer was so impressed with my success, they offered me a job working exclusively on their vehicles(Pacific Land rover in Queensland)

Bernie, thanks for your input.

I'm about to fit 265 70 17 to a set of Dynamic steel 17" rims
the tyer fitter sais he can do the alignment without going first to a dealer to get locked in "geometric" mode while performing the w/a.
Your comments/recomendation?? AND should I give him the guidlines as per above and insist he complies with them.
You say the 18" are more forgiving than the larger sizes - does that mean similar for the 17"x7"

thanks for the speedy reply

dj

Bernie,
I have just found this thread and it looks like this is what I have been searching for. I have a 6 month old Discovery 4 which used to drive perfectly until it went into the dealer for a disc break change(un even wear due to a build problem). Since getting it back I noticed that it had become really camber sensitive and I am constantly correcting the steering to the right. Ive had it back in the dealer twice now and the last time I got it back it seemed better but was slightly over compensating.
I took it to an alignment specialist and the toe angles were really out. We have set it up to the following and it still drifts to the left with the road camber (more than I would expect).
Front toe 0.6mm both sides
Front camber -30' both sides
Caster Left 4 degrees 18' Right 4 degrees 6' (not changed)
Rear toe 0.9mm both sides
Rear camber left -24' Right -42' (not changed)

I have found about 3 different versions of the manufacturers settings and I am not bringing back to the dealer as alignment clearly isn't their strong point. Are the above toe and camber settings ok or should I set it to your earlier recommendation at the beginning of the thread.

Should we adjust the caster and will this help? What settings should we use in the UK?

Any assistance would be really appreciated as this is driving me mad.

Pete

I've had my wheels aligned today due to some slightly uneven wear (N/S rear outer wear & O/S inner wear) & they were setting them to 2.7TDV6 spec (mines a 3.0TDV6). The only figures the garage have are for the earlier 2.7.
Does anybody know where these figures that AG09 quoted came from?

Russ. I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute.

Hi OzWiz,
I've got a pair of badly scrubbed rear tyres on my recently aquired RRS, and got a new set ready to go on, please can you give me the settings you recommend? Specially toe in/out, but camber would be nice too. They're 255/55-19's if that makes a diference.
Sorry - can't pm you as haven't submitted enough posts yet.
Thanks and greetings from freezing UK!
Cheers, Pete

Hi Bernie,

Could you please advise the settings you would advise for mostly motorway country lane driving for a l322 2002 petrol with 255/55 19 Pirelli. also the psi and process with air suspension not to sure as dealer cannot lock height as cpu fuse removed due to battery draining..
Last set of continental tyres lasted less than 6 months before down to radials on inside edge and dirt on seized adjustment nuts suggest never really set right..

Thanks in advance.

I think you might be being a little optimistic in getting a response, as looks like the guy's last post was 14 years ago.

Thank you and a good point- nonetheless I was hoping someone may know from experience if what bernie mentioned for the same size tyres on the the Sport is applicable to the l322. the point he made more than a decade ago about even dealerships and tyres companies just applying software recommendations as the least effort rather than what may be optimal still seems to hold true..
