New Engine? Really !!!

I have a 2016 RRS, serviced regularly, 60k Miles, no major issues…then BANG, crank shaft breaks. THE most horrific noise i ever heard from an engine. Bought it as an “approved used vehicle” from Doncaster Land Rover with 35k miles. Had it shipped back there, and they’re quoting me £13.5k to fix. They wont accept any liability or responsibility. They suggest speaking to Jaguar Land Rover.

I have now been asking around and this is a common problem it seems, I now know of 3 people this has happened to, and these are just the people I know.

Any help/thoughts/advice appreciated.

Alex

There are a few companies that fit recon engines for around £3.5k on EBay . Never used them thankfully but maybe worth a call to them at least. I have attached a link hopefully

This is well documented across the various LR forums and you have been unlucky enough to experience it. It is a lottery though from cars with FSH to even one's that have just been serviced. I'd be contacting JLR customer services and get the ball rolling for a contribution, but either way it's going to be an expensive event. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

This is getting ridiculous now, its is way long past time that JLR owned this issue and agree to fix any crank issues that arise where the car has been service appropriately.

My advice is to complain directly to the JLR CEO (you'll find the relevant details here - https://www.ceoemail.com/index.php), tell him you are copying Trading Standards.

Its probably also time we took responsibility as an organisation for making JLR do the right thing. 2015 Range Rover Sport L494 HSE Dynamic

JLR didn't make the engine - they bought it in from Ford. It's a legacy unit now and there's no way they're going to sort it out going forward from here. Unfortunately. Crying or Very sad 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Australia 2013 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 SE Fuji White

They bought the engines from Ford but manufactured to a Land Rover specification with a number of changes. I haven't heard of the ones fitted to Ford vehicles having this issue nor the ones fitted to a number of Peugeot vehicles. Very strange that only the LR ones appear to blow up like this. I have had my fingers crossed regarding mine! 2017 Range Rover Sport TDV6 L494 SE Fuji White

Same thing happened to my 2014 autobiography at 88K miles whilst out of warranty. JLR supplied a new engine and a local independent Land Rover specialist did the work. Engine & parts £7500, labour £1700 with £1700 refund from JLR. 2014 RRS AB Santorini Black
