Insurance Merry go round

I know it has been mentioned before, but getting a reasonable price for insurance is getting ridiculous. I paid £421.00 last year and have so far found the cheapest quote is £1179 and they want to monitor your driving habits to check speed and braking and acceleration.

Tried NFU and unless the RRS is 5 years old they will not quote for it. Went through all the details with Direct Line and then told they can't quote for the car, surely as soon as you tell them its RRS they can tell you rather than go through all the details first.

A Plan would not quote me either as they said they are just not competitive and can't do anything to try to reduce the price.

Tried BIBA (British insurers broker association) and they put me in touch with Adrian S Flux who quoted £1747.

I think at this rate the RRS will be going for something else, possibly parting company with LR after 16 years, just feel they are having our eyes out.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

A story I've seen for many months on FB, etc, with some companies refusing to insure due to ease of theft

It should hit second hand prices which will be good for those of us that are happy to take a less-than-new vehicle. A drop in price means the insurance cost will be offset. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

You won’t want it Mikey….my SVR was £645 to insure for 25,000 business miles last year….no changes to me or policy… this year renewal invited at £2460!
Most insurers are starting to refuse cover….

I never really understand this (except for maybe young/inexperienced drivers initially).

Drivers that "don't hang around" can be far safer than those who "dawdle".

I've been driven (once only) by some people who accelerate/decelerate/take corners gently that are a menace to themselves & everyone else. 2006 RRS 2.7 HSE.

Is this is a SE England thing? Others have reported much less of an issue in other parts of the country.

It's going to be interesting to see whether the Range Rover badge becomes the 2020s version of the old Cosworth badge from the 1980s/90s, in terms of thefts and insurance issues. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Just out of interest, I went on Compare The Market, asked for fully comp, social and domestic, 10k miles a year for me, clean license, 10+ NCD on a 2021 SVR with a declared value of £90k.

Prices ranged from esure at £716 with £1k compulsory, £500 voluntary excess all the way up to Grove & Dean at £3.5k with similar excess requirements. Sheila's Wheels was 10p more expensive than esure.

Interesting to see Admiral provided 4 different quotes with the most expensive of theirs being the one that required a black box to be fitted. It was £2453 vs the cheapest Admiral at £1682 without a black box.

So, the market for high value, desirable, RRS is a bit, er, weird... Shocked

As a comparison, my current 2012 SDV6 recently cost me just under £300 for me and SWMBO, including business use and 20k miles pa. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

0 years NCD, but taking our business NCD into account

Largely irrelevant though, as I'd just put it on the company policy Laughing

With 0 NCD, that price is not bad. I guess being in the frozen north lands helps. My quote with lots of NCD was £700-ish so <£1100 with no NCD is good. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Interesting to see other quotes from similar age/risk as myself.. 494 theft has gone mental in London and the Home Counties in the last six months.. in February 500 Range Rovers were stolen nationally, the majority in the SE, which is why some insurers would prefer to insure a 17 yr old …… so currently it appears I am being rated for living in the SE!

Fortunately NFU Mutual agreed to cover it for £1400… but only because I am an existing customer… still more than double last years! Big Cry

Mikey how about I run my car as your long term loaner??

I had the same problem.

£375 last year, the cheapest quote I could get was Yoga - £541 fully comp, £500 vol excess, no accidents, tracker fitted, etc, driving since Noah got beached.........they just don't want to insure them these days - too many thefts I guess.

LV and NFU refused to quote.

Anyway, went with Yoga in the end having tried almost everyone.

This is on a 2015 which covers about 5k miles every year. 2015 Range Rover Sport L494 HSE Dynamic
