If the cut is in the rubber between the tread, then I would.

Running over a sharp piece of metal could do that.

If that's the white ply cord visible in the cut then it's illegal.
In any event, whilst not being an expert, surely it's potentially unsafe in a car of that weight and performance.

Thanks for the replies. It’s just confirming what I really know; a new tyre on its way…

Just to prove a point.

You were lucky it wasn't a deeper cut.

Most punctures are a result of a slowly deflating tyre, caused by something like a nail entering the tyre, air escaping, the tyre overheating, and then disintegrating.

When there is a large entry into the tyre around the centre of the tread area, a massive force as all the air (under pressure) escapes suddenly is akin to an explosion.

The picture below is the result of such an event on the M40 in 2012, albeit there were other factors in play, however it was the force of the exploding tyre (120psi) that started the events which ended up in writing this truck off.

Wow, I’ve never seen anything like that. How did your cut catch your eye?. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

I was having the rear anti-roll bar replaced and the garage mentioned it. The cut is on the inside part of the tread.

You don't have local eco-nuts in your area do you? There were tales of them letting tyres down on 4x4's as a protest. Wouldn't put it past them to go one bit further. RRS HSE Dynamic SDV6 2014

Due to the cut’s position, probably not; but there is always someone who is discontented with their own life and try to drag everyone else down…

New tyre now fitted but the garage said that the wheel was buckled and it was a nightmare to balance…sigh! New wheels now…maybe!

You can get the alloys made round again. I had one out of true and it was ÂŁ65 per wheel to do. Afterwards as expected it was silky smooth. Just got to find one near you. Try Protyre in churchfields or Bathwick….. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.
