United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Zambezi Silver
Coolant type

Hi all,

Need to top up coolant before a long journey to France. Currently the coolant in the tank is orangey/red colour. Manual says use Castrol SF. But on the spec sheet for Castrol SF it specifies colour as pink/violet. To confuse things more the safety sheet for Castrol SF says red.
I have the 2.7, any advice on coolant to use or a pre-mix alternative that I can use to top up? I want to avoid causing issues (although this seems unlikely)

Thanks 2005 2.7 tdv6 RRS Vin 6A

Can I use both SF or SF-O? Manual says SF but this isn't the colour I have in... 2005 2.7 tdv6 RRS Vin 6A

Certainly confusing just saw a Castrol spec. sheet that say's SF-O is Blue/Green in colour. Part of the problem is there is no standard for the colour it is just a dye and different manufactures use different colours down here the correct recommended spec. is blue. Depending on how much you need might be worth biting the bullet and get some from a dealer.

Just had a chat with my local LR specialist/indie - for anyone in the same position, they recommended using Prestone coolant/antifreeze which he assured me is compatible with pretty much every other coolant you might find in your disco or RR sport so works well if you just need a top up. Its meant to be very good stuff though with the premium version lasting 15+ years. He said he is switching to use this stuff in all the ones he gets now because its great quality and doesn't coagulate with anything.

I have used Halfords pre-mixed OAT Anti-freeze and coolant in both of my RRS for years:

https://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-o...33536.html 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
