So picked up my new to me RRS 2012 HSE on Tues, however already a couple of small problems -

The boot strut decided to pack up on the NS, the ball joint bit has split so therefore no longer locates on the ball joint attached to the car body. I have ordered up a new one, this looks quite straightforward to replace (boot trim off to reach the plug, unplug and replace) happy with that. Interms of re-calibration do I need to do anything specific? Seen a short video about setting boot height so assume I just need to do this.



The drivers door lock isn’t locking, all others doors lock but the drivers door doesn’t and can’t be pushed in from the inside it’s almost jammed in unlock position. This is perhaps slightly more complex, I take it door card off job to work out what the problem is? Want to do this ASAP as don’t want to leave it unlocked everywhere I go?

Any advice on either much appreciated.

Had the same happen to mine. It's a real pain and the struts are very expensive. Are you fitting them as a pair? The two sides are different. I think that the difference in strut is to allow for the weight if a speaker in the rear door which is set to one side.

Can't help on the calibration as I had the struts done at LR dealership. There is no replacement for displacement - W O Bentley

MY2013 5.0 Supercharged HSE L320

According to the parts list there is no difference in the electric struts they are both the same, it is the previous gas one's which are handed.

As normal a dealer will rip you off and tell you it needs "calibration" where as all it needs is, opening, manually lifting to the height/position you wish to set it at, hold it in that position press and hold the closing button on the bottom edge of the tailgate until you hear a "warning beep" from the vehicle, job done.

Morning all, thanks for the input - interestingly on the handedness of the struts I did phone to check after ordering and they took my VIN ad said the same so that’s good.

Thanks Col (again!) that’s really useful, going to try and swap it myself today as it’s a right pain having such a big boot and not being able to use it! Had two bales of horse shavings on back seat last night - thankfully they were wrapped!!!

Any observations on the door issue? Bit of searching on here and it seems others have suffered the same although some suggest actuator, some motor so I suppose until it’s stripped I won’t know??

UPDATE

So new boot strut arrived and as suggested it wasn’t handed which was a relief! Used the amazing guide posted by Col and soon had inner boot trim off and strut unplugged and swapped. Closed it manually which seemed to ‘reset’ it and away we went all back to normal.

Car went into garage today for lock diagnosis and it’s the motor/latch assembly which has failed so new one ordered and that will be replaced tomorrow. I also had squeaky front arb bushes which after a little grease went away but think that soon dried out and it’s come back - makes the car sound awful and I hate it.

Are you going LR rubber ARB bushes or Polybush? I believe the consensus of opinion is that Polybush last longer.

I was going to go LR as I associate PolyBush with lowered hard riding modified cars but open to opinion on that??

All personal preference, I fitted a pair of front lower arms with poly bushes and found the ride to harsh, so they got binned in the scrap after a couple of weeks and replaced with one's with H/D rubber bushes.
