But how would you know how to "read" it without low to high marks?

Assuming it was possible to push a wire down all the way to a repeatable dead end.
It’d have to then have a “top piece” fixed to the wire to allow it to be pushed down to the same depth every time and to stop it being “lost” down the pipe
Then, having drained the oil, I would fill it with the specified oil change volume. That would then define the “correct level” on the wire (whether you could see it as clean oil is another uncertainty)
Then I would suck out a litre of oil and after a settlement period dip the level and that would then be the “add a litre” mark

All of this would only be possible if it were possible to get a wire down the pipe and to be able to withdraw it and be able to see, accurately the wet mark and relate it to the Dipstick markings

I’m doubtful that thisi is possible since the tube has some tight bends and is relatively small diameter. But one day, if I come across a length of brake wire, I’ll have go at pushing it down the pipe to see how it goes 👍 2016 L494 HSE

I tried this with various pieces of wire and nylon wiper snipper line and could not get it past the bends in the oil extraction tube.
Gave up and had the sender in the sump replaced just before it went out of warranty. A big job on the L494 as the sump had to be removed and the front differential moved forward to get access. This was done at an LR main dealer in Sydney. They had the car for 6 days including a weekend. This is additional info to my post above.

Just an update guys - cars booked into a local indy on the 12th for the oil level.

Still struggling with my sound system though...Was there ever a meridian base system with no sub and no access to the 3 sound options?

My VIN info states the car had the premium audio package added onto the build list.

Worth speaking to a car audio specialist - I have the base meridian on my MY2016 - used audiofile incar in Bishops Stortford (aware you're in Yorks), to soundproof front doors and remove the baffle lining between the speakers and door trip - much improved sound and no more rattles from the doors at high volume. They also do a custom install for the RRS and familiar with the existing setup.

So update!!!
Just been in my friends 2015 L405 same sound system - his has the same options as mine but you can select the 3 other options!!! The screen is the same as mine but you can select the 3 options which makes the sound 1000% better.

In mine the sub and bass are hardly on - could this be a amp issue I'm experiencing or a coding issue - I have the meridian mid system I have 2 speaks in each front door, tweeters on the pillar - a speak in the middle of the dash - 2 speakers in the rear doors then a speak on the parcel shelf in the boot.

I just dont know what to try :/

**UPDATE**

So my oil level indicator is been swapped out on Monday under warranty

Now the second thing the amp is bringing up a error on the garages snap on plug in machine, chap looking at mine said as soon as he turned the radio on he could tell something was wrong as the amp is stuck in stereo and its not letting me choose the other options. He said there a couple of companies they use to repair the amps which come with a 12 month warranty.

Has anyone else had any amp issues where they have had to send it away to be repaired?
