Red diesel ?

Hi chums.
My RRS TDV8 2007 now showing 207,000 miles, and still purring along, everything working.
Forgive me for being dim, but can I run the old girl on red diesel ?
For use on private land obvo ...

I think you may have posted in the wrong section, but shouldn't be a problem, red used to be less refined then white but I think that's changed now with modern engine, now just the same except with a red dye, funnily enough in Ireland it's a green dye or used to be. Just don't get caught on the public roads running it or it could work out expensive. Unless you are using vast amounts personally I think I would stick with white.

Cheers
Col

According to this site https://craggsenergy.co.uk/red-diesel-facts/ red diesel has a lower cetane rating and so would need a cetane booster added to the fuel to run in your TDV8.

Be nice to the engine, buy it proper diesel. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Yes! you can and will have no unwanted issues. People have issues running red when they use dirty drums, get it from a less than clean source etc. Water in drums or just dirty whether it's been gear oil etc in the 5 gall drums.

I am afraid getting red Diesel is not as easy as it used to be, our Government have all but banned it , I can use it in my tractor on the fields but not on the road, most places won’t sell it to you.

lots of filling stations round here sell
it out the pump. I've no idea costing of it but I am led to believe you need show id and give cause for its use. Heater etc being one that apparently works. Wouldn't be me in mine, to good a car to have the vosa and customs take off me.

Though I've not had need to buy any this past year (I have a 40gallon drum's worth), all that's required is filling out your name/address/reg of vehicle buying it at the petrol station.

You can also buy delivered but minimum 500l, which I can't justify.

@Crs I thought it was still OK for tractors on the road if actually working, such as driving between fields etc but not for contracting or going to the market?
