I have a RRS 2005 2.7 and noticed recently the following happening if someone could advise ?

So the other day whilst driving home I noticed a very slight dull thudding noise every so often which i dont know if the below is to do with but seems to have started at same time ?

On arriving home i switch of the engine and got out car and after 5 seconds there is a clunk noise underneath but hard to see where its from, i have left in gear after switching off engine and it does exactly the same every time after i stop and start the engine ?

Any advice what it could be please before i head off to garage

Does the clunk coincide with the suspension 'settling'? I'm wondering if it could be anti-roll bar drop links, which could also explain the occasional dull thunk while driving 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S

So i have dropped suspension to lowest setting and watched for any movement and there isnt any but still same noise, its a double quick clunk noise i have noticed ?

Do you mean the noise happened as the suspension dropped? If so and it wasn't drop links, I'd be thinking lower arm bushes - they are also a common fail and result in a clunk when there is a fore/aft load on the arms (which happens during braking but also if the suspension travels while the wheel is stationary).

That said, mine (which knocked occasionally under braking or rough terrain) didn't make any noises if I put the car into access height - unless they were masked by the creaky ARB bushes, of course, and I just didn't notice. 2014 BMW 530d Touring, 2006 BMW 650i, 2018 Mini Cooper S

No this only happens when i switch on engine then switch off after 5 seconds and doesnt matter what position the suspension is in.

It seems like its in the middle area underneath, suppose like something is clicking in place ?

Usually, a calibration stops it happening

after engine off is the EGRs and turbo actuator moving to do their cleaning cycle
