2.7 cambelt failure

Morning guys, cambelt has gone on my 2006 2.7, it went because the last muppet to change it forgot to tighten up the 3 bolts on the left hand bank camshaft pulley, the one with the slots in. 2 were just hanging in there and the 3rd was in the bottom of the cambelt cover, it wore away the belt so much that it came off the pulley, I was doing about 5mph at the time, no noises it just stopped. my question is what's the likelyhood of valve/rocker damage, as the engine was just above tick over speed when it went.

Hello there and that’s unlucky. Have you got any claim against the garage/person that did it?. Somebody will be along with more knowledge than me….. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

The garage will (or should Shocked ) have cover in their policy to protect themselves against issues like this...

What has the garage said about it?

They don't want to know as I've had it for 6 months and it's on 105k miles, I've issued them an intension of small claims, he's got 14 days, to respond before I file, I'm stuck without a car in the meantime, ans was just wondering if it was repairable by myself and I hit him with costs.

Did you have the belt replaced, or was it replaced as part of a sale?

He told me that both belts were replaced just before purchase, I believe they were because I can still read the writing on the remains of the front belt.

Citizens Advice is the best advice I can give at this point

I dont know how the legalities work when the selling dealer replaces a part, which subsequently fails, outside of the SoG/Fit for purpose etc

If you had paid for the work yourself, its much easier to argue the point

Thanks Mike, yea, that's the road I'm travelling down, CAB gave me the template letter which I've sent to him, gonna cost me just under £500 to pursue through the small claims but it's cheaper than having to pay for a new engine myself, and if I win, which I should, as I have engineers report saying the cause of failure was the loose bolts, I'll be able to claim that expense back. I'd only done 5k since buying it, having to use the missus car till I get something sorted.

Good luck and keep us updated. Was it an LR indie that’s sells cars or just a retail garage. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

Doesn’t matter if you have had it 6 maths the failure is due to their shoddy workmanship, I would pursue it all the way.
Good luck
