I have just bought a 2013 RRS and was wondering how we all secure dog in boot. is there a seat bely fixing in rear or another fixing i could use? or will i need to use rear seat belt fixing point and run this into boot?

We board guide dogs - they supply us with a simple cable similar to the link that attaches to the dog's harness (top of their shoulders):

I cable tie it (3x cable ties to be safe!) to the rear seat securing loops as these are safety critical mounting points so will not go anywhere. The advantage of this is its height - it lets the dog sit up or lie down.

I should note that we don't need to fit dog guards as the dogs are trained so well to stay put!

I suppose that depending on the size of the dog, the dog guard that fits securely above the rear seats will be the best bet. If you have a small dog, there are crates that will fit in the boot so you don't get the pea in a drum effect.

We have always had large dogs so a gen LR guard is the way we went. I'm not a fan of the Travall type aftermarket efforts.

I went the simple route,
One of these with the open end tight around the headrest legs,
tightened so even if the car was upside down it would still be secure,

What's wrong with a dog guard? Dog in boot, can't get in to the cabin area either on purpose or during a crash. No risk of the dog strangling itself if it gets wrapped up in the lead/cable thingy.

We use a Travall one. We also have the divider that lines up with the rear seat split line. This allows some stuff to go in the boot with the dogs and protects the dogs from stuff falling on them.

and an option to share with others,
so to answer your question, I never said anything
was wrong with a dog guard, I have had them in other
cars, just chose a different set up this time round..

Thanks for all replies and ill prob just put a good liner down and then use the cage divider.

I've gone for the belt and braces approach. There is a Pet-World/ Arrows-UK L320 specific dog crate (£99 delivered as ex-demo) for day to day travel and then a genuine LR dog guard (£45 off e-Bay) permanently fitted for any transport needs when the crate isn't ready and waiting in the car.

With just the guard in place, the load cover is still useable too, which is nice as the dogs aren't always in the car of course.

I use a Tektake crate, with straps to the tie down points to keep it in place. 2010 HSE TdV8 in Stornoway Grey.
