Black smoke on hard acceleration

rrs 2008 2.7 i have black smoke on hard acceleration and occasional warning appears engine system malfunction but checked and have no fault codes stored and have been told to check intercooler hose for splits which i am going to do today but has anyone else encountered these issues ?,

Intercooler hoses are quite a common issue,, easiest place to start looking. 2010 RRS, TDV8
bali Blue / colour coded
side steps / flappy paddles
black perforated leather
22" overfinch
heated everything, TV,fridge ...... now with gold calipers and mud flaps !( black mud flaps that is) !!
Many years ago,,,,, 1955 series 1 landie , sometimes wish I had kept it

When my hoses went I had no smoke - just went into limp mode to get me home. But, as Gogsy says, and as you planned, the hoses are a simple and easy way to start your analysis. Also a fault did show on the fault code data. Check they are using a decent fault diagnosis tool Robin

Yes it was the long intercooler hose so gaffa tape on has confirmed and new hose on order, and thanks for your input.

The top hose is an easy fit as it's all nicely accessible and the fittings are simple. The ones buried down the side of the engine are more "interesting". 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
